Motion Potion, (he of the legendary Nickie’s “Whatdafunk” parties and SF Funk Festival) and Malarkey (who single-handledly revitalized the North Bay funk scene with his “Juke Joynt” parties) have made a solemn pledge to the memory of James Brown to help his legacy live on.
Funkonnection will feature the artists working to bring the oldschool sounds of the ONE to the dance-floor with modern production. This “nufunk” universe is expanding by the day with artists from Europe (Kraak & Smaak, Dr Rubberfunk, Torpedo Boyz, Bonobo), South America (Quantic), Canada (Smalltown Djs, Wicked Lester, Neighbor) and the States (Fort Knox Five, Allgood Funk Alliance, Nikodemus, Ursula 1000) joining forces to rescue the funk from dollar-bin obscurity. Now the Bay Area, one of the funk’s seminal birthplaces will have its own monthly chance to celebrate this fusion of the old and the new at everyone’s favorite funky lil dance-club in the Mission - PinK! And so you know we’re serious, Funkonnection comes complete with the SF Funk Festival décor and free fried chicken served at show-time..
