Our hip-hop album featuring the super talented Swamburger and Alexandrah.
Founded in 1999 by Rusty Belicek, Frank Cueto and Tom Shiner.
Artists: All Good Funk Alliance, Dr. Delay, Feature Cast, Gerbia, Dj Regal, Jeff Settle, Wicked Lester, and Eddie Scratch.
Sound: Break Beat, Mid-tempo, Down-tempo, Hip-Hop, Electro, and Funk
Funk Weapons was born out of a desire to release music that was a bit out of the comfort zone for most labels and distributors back in the 1999. The All Good Funk Alliance was writing music that blended organic sounds, funk, house and breaks, and were having a hard time finding anyone that would release or distribute it. Rusty and Frank of the All Good Funk Alliance got together with fellow recording artist Tom (Dr. Delay) Shiner to help come up with a design and look. The first release was an introduction to this new sound, and featured a remix of De La Soul’s “Me, Myself & I”, a break beat house jam called “Party over here”, a deep house cut from Brian Kirkbride and a cut-up jazz-funk track from Dr. Delay.
The Label didn’t really take off until they linked up with Groove Distribution out of Chicago, whom really pushed the Funk Weapons label worldwide with the release of AGFA’s “Pete’s Sake” EP. This lead to the next release which featured Fort Knox Five and new comer Kid Gusto on the remix tip, making for one of our biggest selling singles from a completely unknown artist Jeff Settle. Having been well ahead of the mid-tempo curve the Funk Weapons label was fast becoming a staple in many of the best dj’s crates.
There last release with Feature Cast sold well over 1,200 units, which in this day of digital sales and Serato is no small feat. 2008, looks strong as the label prepares to release it’s 15th release and push out some serious heat from AGFA, Feature Cast, Delay, Eddie Scratch and a couple of fresh faces.
