Funky Amigosin valtakunnallinen demoskaba on viidettä kertaa käynnissä! Tarkoituksena on jäljittää jälleen uusia ja vanhempiakin kotimaisia tumman rytmimusiikin virtuooseja joka puolelta Suomea. Edellytyksenä on ainoastaan se, ettei kilpaan osallistuva artisti tai kokoonpano ole ehtinyt vielä julkaista virallista kautta materiaaliaan (omakustanteet ja muut independent-pienpainokset siis kelpuutetaan tapauskohtaisesti mukaan).
Demoskaban voittajalle tarjotaan esiintymismahdollisuus 15th Funky Elephant -festivaalilla 28.-30.5.2009 välisenä aikana Helsingissä (joko päätapahtuman tai oheisohjelman yhteydessä). Jaossa on myös erityisiä kunniamainintoja, jotka saatetaan palkita joko keikoilla festarin tai muiden Funky Amigos -tapahtumien yhteydessä – ja joka tapauksessa vähintäänkin festarilipuilla.
Funk, soul, hiphop, grime, reggae, dance hall, jazz, afrobeat jne… Kaikenlainen groove otetaan vastaan sekä bändeiltä että dj'iltä (miksaukset yms.). Osallistua voi joko sähköisesti (esim. Aiemmin tiedottamamme FunkyETV-ohjelma esitysajat eivät pitäneet paikkaansa. Pahoittelemme virheellistä informaatiota! Virhe oli meistä täysin riippumaton ja tämän vuoksi keskiviikkona 7.5. ollut ohjelman ensiesitys alkoikin jo klo 18.10 (eikä klo 18.45, kuten aiemmin ilmoitimme ja itsekin luulimme). Muutos esitysaikoihin oli tehty ohjelman esittäneellä DINA-digikanavalla ilmoittamatta asiasta meille tai kenellekään muullekaan ulkopuoliselle.
Myös FunkyETV:n uusinnan osalta esitysaika on muuttunut! Uusinta on viimeisimpien ohjelmatietojen mukaan tulossa ulos sunnuntaina 11.5. klo 15.10 (ei siis klo 15.45). Varmuuden vuoksi kannattanee avata vastaanotin jo kolmelta, mikäli vanhat merkit pitävät paikkansa... :) Luvassa absurdin hulvatonta menoa ja hyvää rytmimusiikkia, joten ei kannata missata!
Ohjelma esitetään siis Welhon kaapelissa kanavapaikalla DINA. Ohjelman voi katsoa myös netistä osoitteesta http://www.m2hz.net. M2Hz:n nettisivuilla on ilmeisesti ollut kuitenkin ongelmia, joten kannattaa käydä myöhemmin uudelleen, mikäli ohjelmatarjontaa ei tahdo heti löytyä tai saada esille.

Changes in Funky ETV times
As some of you may have noticed the FunkyETV times we gave out were not correct, the broadcast on Wednesday started at 18.10 already. This had nothing to do with us, and we were not informed about any such changes. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The rerun is also rescheduled to start at 15.10 on Sunday May 11th. Catch that show! The show will be online at http://www.m2hz.net, but they've apparently experienced some technical difficulties recently, so shows may not be up there all the time. Keep checking back on the page though. Thanks.

FunkyETV broadcast and official regards
Sense the Funky Elephant 14 vibes once more on Wednesday May 7th at 18,45 Finnish time, when the newly established open television channel M2HZ shows a recap of this year’s festival. The program will rerun on Sunday May 11th at 15.10 Finnish time.
You can watch the channel on Welho’s cable network on channel slot DINA, or alternatively online at http://www.m2hz.net right after the cable broadcast.
The hour long FunkyETV-program will mainly cosist of live performances and artist interviews. On top we have a high octane studio section and some funny clips taken during the festival. The program is directed and edited by our thrustee cameraman Jari Järvi, who has worked on the festival since -99.

Hikinen ja Sielukas lauantai-ilta Funky Elephantissa
Huikeisiin tunnelmiin nousseet Funky Elephantin torstai ja perjantai ovat menestyksellä takana päin! Torstaina Tavastia tärisi liitoksissaan suomalaisen hiphopin kärkinimien tarjoillessa parasta antiaan tanssinnälkäiselle festariyleisölle Giant Räbätin, Jontti, Shaka & Koivuniemen Herrojen sekä Michael Black Electron voimin. Perjantai-iltaa rytmittivät eteerisesti soljuva Aaron Jerome ja intensiivinen Black Grass muiden uudempaa kotimaista ja brittiläistä rytmiä edustavien vetojen joukossa.
Tänään lauantaina siirrytään toisenlaisiin tunnelmiin, sillä luvassa on monipuolinen kattaus perinteisempää funkia ja soulia reggae- ja blues-rytmeillä terästettynä. Funky Elephantin yleisö saa lauantaina olla todistamassa festarin historian huikeimmaksi ennustettua live-vetoa, kun Njassan isännöimän Tavastian lavalle kapuavat vanhat soul- ja funk-mestarit The Dynamites vokaaleissaan legendaarinen Charles Walker.
Lauantai-illassa nähdään ja kuullaan myös flamencoa ja rumbaa funkiin, breakbiittiin ja hiphopiin yhdistävän espanjalaisduo Los Rumbersin sähäkkä show, tummasävyisen Miss Saana and The Missionariesin sielukasta retrofunkia ja tämänvuotisissa Funk Awardseissa vuoden 2007 parhaaksi bändiksi valittu Aiyekooto & His Afrobeat International. Luvassa on myös Petri Kautto - Tero Rantanen -duon akustista soulia ja Funky Amigos Dj'sien settejä.
Soulia, funkia, rockia ja elektronisempaakin tanssimusiikkia yhdistelevän Teppo Mäkysen uusi projekti The Stance Brothers viihdyttää Semifinalin puolella, kuten myös juuri ensilevynsä julkaissut Reino & The Rhinos ensimmäisellä virallisella keikallaan. SuperJohnnyn mestaroimaa Semifinal-iltaa piristää myös Bassoradion taajuuksilta tuttu DJ Smoodie. Mbarissa tanssikansaa lämmittelee DJ Petrus.

Sweaty and Soulful Saturday at the Funky Elephant
The Thursday and Friday of this year's Funky Elephant went by succesfully and with a great atmosphere. On Thursday Tavastia was shook when the crème de la crème of Finnish hiphop - Giant Räbät, Jontti & Shaka and Michael Back Electro - gave their best to the responsive audience. The Friday night was driven by British rhythms, the diverse Aaron Jerome live set, the intensive Black Grass, as well as some of the most promising new rhythms in ....Finland.... - Raappana, Astro Can Caravan, MonoS & Northbound.
Today we move to a bit more rootsy sounds of funk and soul garnished with reggae and blues sounds, as it's time for one of the most highly expected gigs in the festival's history, when The Dynamites enters the stage with the legendary Charles Walker on vocals.
Other acts on Saturday include the Spanish duo Los Rumbers and their unique blend of funk, breakbeat and hiphop, the soulful retro deep funk of Miss Saana & The Missionaries, and authentic afrobeat at its peak by Aiyekooto & His Afrobeat International, awarded Band of the Year in the Funk Awards 2007. Also performing are duo Petri Kautto – Tero Rantanen and the Funky Amigos djs.
The Stance Brothers, led by Teppo Mäkynen, play their intensive garage jazz in Semifinal. After that there are Reino and The Rhinos - who just recently released their debut album – on their first official gig.
Naturally the party starts with Warm-Up at mbar 18-20. Today it's time for DJ Petrus. Mbar is free of charge.

Funky Elephant 14 käynnistyy keskiviikkona 16.4. mbarissa (Lasipalatsin yhteydessä), jossa vietetään festariviikon Funky Warm Up -bileiden avajaisjuhlaa kovan luokan dj-esitysten voimin klo 21-03 (torstaista lauantaihin klo 18-21).
Avajaisiltana kuullaan brittiläisen kovan luokan tuottaja-muusikko-dj:n Aaron Jeromen (BBE Music) odotettu dj-setti visuaaleilla väritetyn mbarin iltaklubilla. Se antaa samalla jonkinlaista esimakua täyteläiselle ja monipuoliselle keikalle Funky Elephantin perjantaissa 18.4. Tavastialla yhdessä miehen ammattitaitoisen live-bändin kanssa (rumpali Richie Spaven soittaa myös yhdessä mm. arvostetun Marc de Clive-Lowen kanssa). Jeromea pohjustaa levyvalinnoillaan DJ A. Myllykoski.

Launch of the Funky Elephant Festival Week!
Funky Elephant 14 gets started on Friday the 16th of April at mbar (....Helsinki.... center, Lasipalatsi). The Funky Warm Up opening party will be celebrated with top-notch dj performances between 21-03 (thu-sat between 18-21).....
On the opening night, Aaron Jerome (BBE Music), a British producer-musician-dj wizard, will perform his dj set with an additional back up from the visual duo Beige/Harmaa at mbar. That will give a little taste of what is to come on Friday the 18th of April at Tavastia, where Aaron Jerome and his live band with professional musicians will give an insight into their diverse and deep soul fusion. Drummer Richie Spaven, for example, has been playing together with well-known musicians such as Marc de Clive-Lowe. DJ A. Myllykoskigives a helping hand to the music selections during the night.....
Entrance to the Funky Warm Up parties between Wednesday and Saturday is free of charge (age limit 18). Welcome!! You probably want to check out the Funky Elephant t-shirts by Globe Hope at the same time when visiting mbar, which sells them in April.....

Huhtikuussa Helsinki groovaa!
Mustaan rytmimusiikkiin erikoistunut Funky Elephant -klubifestivaali levittäytyy tänä vuonna Tavastialta ja Semifinalista mbar- ja Kuudes linja -ravintoloihin. Neljätoistavuotiaan festivaalin ohjelmisto laajenee samalla viisipäiväiseksi ja sisällöltään entistä monipuolisemmaksi.
Funky Elephantin oheisohjelmaa nähdään ensimmäistä kertaa jo perjantaina 4.4. Kampin mbarissa, jossa vietetään festivaalin historiaan ja eri ilmiöihin keskittyvän valokuvanäyttelyn avajaisia. Iltaa juhlistavat Jaakko Eino Kalevin live-esiintyminen ja DJ Vilunki 3000:n dj-show.
Festivaalin infopisteenäkin toimivassa mbarissa järjestetään jokaisena festaripäivänä ilmaista oheisohjelmaa. Ohjelman avaa ensimmäistä kertaa Suomessa vieraileva, perjantain päätapahtumassa Tavastialla live-bändin kanssa esiintyvä brittiläinen tuottaja-dj Aaron Jerome dj-setillään.
Pääesiintyjistä tulonsa ovat varmistaneet myös afroamerikkalaiset soul/funk -virtuoosit The Dynamites feat. Charles Walker, brittiläisen uuden rytmin lähettiläs Black Grass sekä kotimaiset Raappana & Sound Explosion Band ja Giant Räbät vierailijoineen. Sunnuntain päätösbileissä Kuudennella linjalla esiintyy muun muassa vuoden artistiksi Funk Awards 2007 -gaalassa valittu "Punavuoren R. Kelly”, Stig Dogg.
Funky Elephant järjestetään Helsingissä 16.-20.4.2008 (Tavastia & Semifinal, mbar, Kuudes linja). Koko ohjelma aikatauluineen julkistetaan viikolla 11, jolloin alkaa myös festivaalin ennakkolipunmyynti.
