I can't speak for all the band, so for me (Brent) I reckon anything I experiance living is, whether that be a door hinge squeaking, a song on the radio, the movement of your body, whats going on in your thoughts or feelings, your whole environment. When I get the chance I like listening to, Johny Cash, powderfinger, pearl jam, soundgarden, realistix, slim dusty, Annie difranco, some weird meditation chants, the cure, Audioslave, u2, rage against the machine, midnight oil, some regurgitator, my friends bands, newcastle acts, some bo didley and miles davis, jeff buckley anything my flatemate is which is usually hiphop, and sometimes silence if i can get it. Hope that helps give some influences. I also try looking into philosphys of people and ideas and try and interpret it with music.
Sounds Like
I call what we do Tribal Blues, because of the Hand drumming, open tunings, didjeridoo and rhythms and the fact the lyrics are often talking about having crap to deal with. We've been told we sound a bit like John butler meets the white stripes. But when they turn us up loud I've been told we sound like metal, so go figure. I reckon if you look at some of what I listen to you'll see it in our music somehow. Hows that, clear as mud.
