Friends since middle school, David Thornton and Joe Booth decided to create an all original funk rock band a few years after graduating high school .
With influences such as Living Colour, Prince, Deep Purple, Larry Graham and GCS, Jimi Hendrix etc., the music was funky with a hard rock vibe.
So.....It all started at Music Medley's on High Street in Hamilton Ohio. Music Medley's was a store that sold instruments, c.d.s, etc. John Medley was the owner of this store and could play a bass guitar like no other! This is where we would practice and write new songs.
After auditioning several drummers, Lonnie Buckley entered our lives. After just one rehearsal,we all agreed that Lonnie was the best drummer that any of us had ever heard. The four of us began writing songs on a regular basis. Now all that we needed was a name.
After watching an episode of ''Are You Being Served'', featuring a doll named 'Funtime Freddy', Joe wrote a song about it. On our way to a battle of the bands we realized that we had not come up with a name yet. After sifting through some lyrics that Joe had written, Funtime Freddy popped up and stuck as our new name.
For several years Funtime Freddy played all over the tri-state area, bringing a sound that was different than most other local bands. With funk as the center point, Funtime Freddy has always experimented with different approaches of writing. The live performances have always been the focal point of this band.
Bogart's (the main place in Cincinnati to see national acts) was a huge part of Funtime Freddy's past. After winning ''The Rumble'' (a battle of the bands) Funtime Freddy would continue to play at this venue many times. Bogart's hosted a huge event with Funtime Freddy headlining and celebrating the release of their debut c.d. ''IT'S ON!''
The success of ''IT'S ON!'' rendered many great things for Funtime Freddy including live radio performances, airplay on local stations, and tons of calls from local venues wanting Funtime Freddy to play.
After several years of silence, Funtime Freddy has reunited! We are primarily writing new songs and playing live as often as possible. Each member is still involved with cover bands to pay the bills. David Thornton and John Medley play in a band called '3 Feet Deep'. Lonnie Buckley plays in a band called 'BarFly'. Joe Booth is in a band called 'Pub Dog' and also performs with David Thornton as an acoustic duet called The Almighty Kings'. Check out these bands on our friends list!
Funtime Freddy is a high energy funk rock band that will definately make you leave the show with a smile on your face!
Hey fellas, Its been to long since I have dropped by. Page looks good and as always the tunes are smokin' It was cool to listen to more of your tunes, that is a great option. Have a good gigging weekend and may the tips be plenty

Yo play that funky music white boys! Oh sorry I really came by to thank you for the ad. And through a little of that chicago blues in there too will ya?!
I would attend, but I'm not too keen on flying to the states on the low budget income I currently earn. But perhaps, maybe someday, i shall be blessed with a stash of cash and specially turn up to worship you...
Naahhhhh who am I kidding, I'd blow it all on beer.
I'm sorry your show got cancelled. Know this, you are a good band. You have good grooves to dance too and some cool melodies to tickle the ears. To tell you the truth I doubt the cancellations has any thing to do with you. A lot of the bar and clubs are mismanaged. Keep hope, you will catch a break soon and you will be feasting on the rewards of the scared gigs. Your banner still fly’s proudly on myspace.
changed the date to the 30th. too much going on this weekend. so mark your calendar for the new date. changed venue as well. Most likely whiskey dicks cincinnati :D
