Reading, writing, running and film. My latest thing is toying with the idea of shooting a movie. It couldn't turn out any worse than your basic Tim Allen flick.
Music
In no particular order, Southern Culture on the Skids, Drivin N Cryin, Dar Williams, Tom Waits, Matt Pond PA, John PRine, Natalie Merchant, 10,000 Maniacs, BEck, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ben Harper, U2 before they sold out, REM before they sold out and Billy Joel before "Uptown Girl". Also, Willie Nelson is possibly the coolest person alive. I heard "Cowboys are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other" and laughed until my ribs hurt a bit (it was poignant in places, too). It's available on I-Tunes. However, it does put "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" in a bit of a confusing light.
Movies
It's a Beautiful Life, For the Love of the Game, Born Cool, The Princess Bride and I don't care what anybody says, Hudson Hawk. The Station Agent, Dogma, Broadcast News, The Quiet Man, The Ring, Blair Witch Project, Swingers, Barcelona, Kicking and Screaming (not the Will Ferrell one), It's a Wonderful Life & Mr. Roberts.
Television
In order:
News Radio,
Twin Peaks,
M*A*S*H*,
Scrubs,
The Simpsons,
Seinfeld,
Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
X-Files,
St Elsewhere &
Freaks & Geeks
Books
A Prayer for Owen Meany, World According to Garp (John Irving); God Knows (Joseph Heller); Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (entire series) (Douglas Adams); The Power of One (Bryce Courtenay - don't bother with the movie); Because it is Bitter and Because it is My Heart, We were the Mulvaneys, Wonderland (Joyce Carol Oates) and (I freely admit) the Harry Potter series (Dumbledore is dead, so deal with it).
Heroes
"Hero" is an impossibly difficult thing to live up to. If you held a gun to my head though, I'd pick Arthur Ashe. Grace under pressure personified both on and off the tennis court. I'd list Jimmy Buffet, but look at that whole Madison Square Gardens thing - like I said, "hero" is a very hard thing to live up to.
About me: I eat, sleep, write, read and complain. I do all of these a lot. I wish I had more time in the day. That's another complaint that I wrote just now and then read to make sure it was all spelled correctly. Now I'll go eat and go to bed and call it a day.
I'm married to a wonderful woman who I love more than televised sports. That may seem trite, but it's true without being sappy and I think it has a certain level of sentiment, though perhaps not apparent at first blush.
We have no children, but have a cat we spoil and harrass, alternately.
My job is interesting and fulfilling. That's not quite right. My job is interesting. That's still not really true. My job pays the bills. Enough said about that.
I have come to realize that, regardless of what they tell you in commercials, there is more to life than digital cable, even if you have a DVR (that seemed trite and actually was!)
Who I'd like to meet: Jimmy Buffett. The man sings, writes, flies, tours in the summer and apparently anything else he wants to do. He would be a good influence on me. As long as I live, I think there is nothing that better represents summer (or even vacations in general) as Jimmy Buffett music. Even if he had written nothing else, I'd be a fan for "A Pirate Looks at 40".
Hey neighbors! How have you been doing? Havent seen or heard from yall in a while so I was just checking up to see how yall been doing and letting yall know im still alive. Need to get some spare time sometime and go out if the weather will let it happen
