Oh and lets face it theres way to many musical influences to list. From NOFX to Mr, BUngel to Mighty Mighty Bosstones, to a little Miles Davis. We're also big fans of anything locally rockin!!! We're pretty lucky now days to have so many great bands in Denver and so many venues also. It didn't used to be that way.
F.G.M.G. was formed in the basement of Luke D. and Ska T in 1993. Originally these guys started out playing keggers that the guys would throw at the house. Through alot of Friday night skin fests and pure driven swill fests at the old house on Blasam Stereet the guys built a cult following. The Denver music scene was basically dead and there were a few clubs still doing live music. Ska and Funk were still newcomers to the Dever scene. That's when Furious came crashing through the door. Starting out at a battle of the bands at the old Mercury cafe they played thier first show to a crowd of about twenty. In the next three years they went from twenty people to selling out and playing the biggest venues in the area. Both Alan Roth and Marylin Megenity, (the owners of Hermans Hideaway, and the Mercury Cafe ) had dubbed F.G.M.G. as thier favorite local up and coming band. Not only did these guys bring in great crowds but they brought in crowds that had fun and crouds that drank ... ... ... LOTS. In a full two page write up on the band, in Westword ,(Denver's local arts and culture premier publication) in the summer of 1997 the article talked about how this band took you on a ride and that anyone from skater punk rockers with thier knee caps pierced to Doctors and high society lawyers could be seen losing thier inhibitions and alot of other things at a Furious George and the Monster Groove show. These guys created the kind of atmosphere in a show where people could just forget where and who they were for a few hours and become this crazy funky being who nobody could cast stones at. It wasn't wierd to get out on the floor at a Furious show and dance like an epileptic naked seizure had taken over you... ... ... It was the norm.
All in all music is to these guys what it should be for so may people. A release. Fun. Pleasure. An escape. A way to let go of your Monday-through Friday 9-5. A way to pleasure yourself. A way to be something, anything you want to be for a few hours without being judged by those who are equally entwined around you. Music should move your body and soul, and create a sense of bliss and euphoria. I don't know if this is what the guys in Furious set out to do, but that's what they created.
For coming out in a time when the Denver scene was at such a lul these guys created something really special. They shared the stage with such great bands as the Voo Doo Glow Skulls, 311, the Refreshments,Stabbing Westward, Cherry Poppin Daddies, Johnny Socko, Let's Go Bowling, All, MU 330, the Skatalites, Skankin Pickle, FUngo Mungo, Weapon of Choice, the Skelletones, Fred Green, Phunk Junkies, Kongo Shock, Hazel Miller, Tower of Power, Phychedelic Zombies, Lord of Word, Opie Gone Bad, Judge Roughneck, Rubber Planet, Bretheren Fast, Slim Cessna, and many more. They played all the Denver festivals such as the Lodo Fest, Peoples Fair, Taste of Colorado. Westword Music awards, and more. They also played the North by Northwest festival in Vancuuver British Colombia. They have Headlined all the great rooms of Colorado, (Hermans Hideaway, The Fox Theater, The Ogden, The Gothic, THe Bluebird, THe Aggie along with all the more localized Denver Venues) and have toured extensively through the midwest leaving thier mark.
In late 1997 the band decided to take a break from playing together which turned out to be an 8 year break as the members were all pursuing other projects and touring with other performers. All the members remained a part of the Denver music community playing in various projects. Late in the summer of 2006 the guys all got together to jam and with it feeling so good and fresh to be back together and creating music, they decided to do it again. So with a bigger and better lineup THEY ARE BACK! They have thier first show scheduled at Hermans Hideaway on Dec. 23rd and there will be more to come. There is a second album in the works which will be recorded at Motaland (home of Fivecore Records) sometime after the frist of the year. They look forward to seeing you at a show very soon!!!!
