FURIOUS ZOO est le projet parallèle du chanteur-batteur RENAUD HANTSON (7 albums avec le groupe SATAN JOKERS dont « SJ 2009 » et « Fetish X » albums de la reformation actuelle du groupe avec un nouveau line-up, 9 albums en solo avec de nombreux succès, clips, tournées et émission TV, producteur de plusieurs groupes Rock, diverses participations vocales [les Enfoirés, Solidays, Shannon…], connu pour ses rôles dans l'Opéra-rock Starmania, il a également incarné James Dean, le rôle-titre de La Légende de Jimmy, avant d’interpréter plus récemment Gringoire dans Notre-Dame de Paris, devenant ainsi le seul ancien musicien de hard-rock à réussir dans un genre musical plus populaire). Défini par Michel Berger comme le meilleur chanteur de sa génération et considéré par les lecteurs des magazines spécialisés à ses débuts dans Satan Jokers comme le numéro un des batteurs rock français, Renaud Hantson prend surtout un grand bol d'air avec FURIOUS ZOO qui lui permet d'oublier que sa passion pour la musique, qui signifiait liberté artistique, mélanges musicaux et qualités techniques, ne veut plus dire grand-chose dans un show-business où seuls règnent audimat, pubs radio, et stars éphémères.
Il a eu envie de retrouver le plaisir de jouer un hard-rock mélodique avec des titres aux ambiances variées où sa voix s’exprime toute en nuances, entre force et finesse, dans la lignée du héros de son adolescence et ami depuis 1993 : Glenn Hughes (ex Deep Purple). FURIOUS ZOO, c'est l'envie du contact direct avec le public en jouant dans de petites salles, clubs, bars ou festivals, ce qu’Hantson n’avait jamais fait auparavant, si ce n’est lors de bœufs mémorables. Le bonheur de jouer du Big Rock, qui va des compositions personnelles (à découvrir sur l'album « Furioso II » sorti en juin 2005 ainsi que dans le CD « Furioso III" » mélangeant titres studio et titres enregistrés en concert ou encore dans le très complet DVD du groupe alors en power trio (avec BENOIT COUSIN à la guitare et CEDRIC LE COZ à la basse) incluant live, interviews et studio parus tous deux en juin 2006) à des reprises des années 70 qui vont d'Hendrix, ZZ Top, U2, ou Thin Lizzy en passant par Deep Purple et bien d'autres.
Accompagné en concert depuis 2009 du guitariste PHILIPPE KALFON (Nh3, Shakin' Street), du bassiste WENERJA (Death By Design) et du batteur JOE STEINMANN (Big Ben) le combo sur-vitaminé met le feu à chacun de ses passages sur scène, car il allie l'expérience de musiciens hors pairs et la spontanéité d'un nouveau groupe qui se plaît à écumer les clubs tant leur but premier est…le plaisir. « Furioso IV » le récent album enregistré avec l’aide du guitariste OLIVIER SPITZER (nouveau guitariste de Satan Jokers) contient quatorze titres en anglais dont une reprise du "Down On The Street" des Stooges, quelques boulets de canon comme « Get Out Of My Way », « H Bomb Child » ou « Rock Messiah », les sophistiqués « The Furious Zoo », « Tonight », « No More », « Dangerous Game » ou « Tough Enough » ainsi qu’un duo intitulé "A Dead Man Won't Lie" avec ZOUILLE, l'ancien chanteur de Sortilège. Les années qui passent et un mode de vie souvent rock n' roll n'ont pas l'air d'avoir prise sur Hantson qui paraît de plus en plus jeune et énergique au fil du temps (qui a parlé d'un pacte avec le diable ?!...). Fort de cet excellent nouveau cd, de concerts réguliers et d’un public de plus en plus fidèle et nombreux, FURIOUS ZOO prouve qu’il est un vrai groupe qui a toujours dit qu’il grandirait au fil des albums. Les mois qui viennent s'annoncent sauvagement difficiles pour les plus sceptiques qui penseraient encore qu’on n’a pas le droit d’aimer plusieurs styles musicaux et que Renaud HANTSON avait renié le monde du Hard Rock, d'autant plus avec le cinquième album du groupe version 2010 à la pochette explicite et sexy "A.nal O.riented R.ock - Furioso V" (allusion d'HANTSON au format radio américain A.O.R. "Album Oriented Rock") qui compte maintenant dans ses rangs FLORENT LAGALICE à la basse. Plus mature et orienté Big Rock à la manière des influences du groupe actuel (Journey, Mr. Big, Toto...), il contient 14 nouvelles chansons dont les futurs standards live de FURIOUS ZOO "Who Is Who", "Tied Up", "Insomnia", "Go !", "Big Boobies", "Locomotive Breath" (reprise de Jethro Tull) ou les émotionnels "Heal Me" et "I'll Go Alone"...
FURIOUS ZOO is singer-drummer RENAUD HANTSON's « parallel project ». The man is not a newcomer on the French musical scene. His achievements aren't scarce. With the group SATAN JOKERS, he released 6 albums including « SJ 2009 » with the actual line-up, 8 solo albums including many hits, videos,, tours and TV shows, he also took part in several musical projects (Les Enfoirés, Solidays, Shannon…) for instance. Well-known for his roles in the rock-opera « Starmania », he also « embodied » James Dean in the title-role of « La légende de Jimmy », another rock-opera by Berger and Plamondon. More recently, he performed the rôle of Gringoire in « Notre Dame de Paris ». Therefore, he can be considered as the only genuine French rock musician to succeed in a more « popular » genre. Once defined by Michel Berger as « the best singer of his generation », Renaud Hantson was also considered, when he performed with SATAN JOKERS, as the most outstanding French rock drummer by most readers of specialized rock magazines. Then, no doubt that, as far as he is concerned, FURIOUS ZOO's functions and effects are multifarious. First of all, it enables him to give free expression to his double talent. Then, it helps him forget, for a while, that what generated his passion for music, that is-to-say, artistic liberty, musical creative mixing and blending, as well as technical quality, doesn' t mean much, nowadays, in a « show-business » in which ratings and subsequent profits prevail and lead to the generalization of « formatting » and « standardisation », advertising, submission to the needs and « laws » of television and radio programmes, and, as a consequence, to a whole system largely based on a commercial « management » of the careers of standardized, then, interchangable and, consequently, ephemeral « stars ». Finally, FURIOUS ZOO is a good and necessary breath of fresh air and a simple source of sheer bliss he regularly indulges in.
Renaud Hantson just felt like recovering the pleasure of playing melodious hard-rock, with a variety of titles and musical ambiances in which his voice can express all its specificity, thoroughly and freely, and bring out all its nuances, between strength and subtlety, in the tradition of Glenn Hughes ( ex-Deep Purple ), the hero of his teen age and his friend since 1993. FURIOUS ZOO is the fulfillment of Hantson's desire for direct contact with the public that artists can only get by performing in small concert-halls or, even, rooms, in clubs or bars, in festivals, etc... , which he had never done before, except on the occasion of some memorable and improvised « jam-sessions ». His performing with FURIOUS ZOO engenders the bliss of playing genuine Big Rock music, real personal compositions ( those on « Furioso II » released in 2005, those on « Furioso III », a CD mixing studio and live recordings released in 2006, or those on the DVD of the group when it was a power trio, released in 2006 too, and including interviews, studio and live recordings), but, also, some old « standards » of the 1970's, by Hendrix, ZZ Top, U2, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple and many others.
With the support of PHILIPPE KALFON (Nh3, Shakin’ Street) the guitarist, WENERJA (Death By Design) the bassist and drummer JOE STEINMAN (Big Ben), Hantson's over-energetic band set the stage and the public on fire during each of their performances, on account of the combined effect of the experience of outstanding musicians and the spontaneity of a new group who love to « scour » clubs and whose prevailing motivation and goal is sheer pleasure. The latest album « Furioso IV », recorded with the help of guitarist OLIVIER SPITZER (new guitarist with Satan Jokers) contains forteen titles in English, including a cover of « Down On The Street » by the Stooges, but also possible metal classics like « Get Out Of My Way », « H Bomb Child » or « Rock Messiah », sophisticated songs like « The Furious Zoo », « Tonight », « No More », « Dangerous Game » or « Tough Enough » and a duet called "A Dead Man Won't Lie" with ZOUILLE (the former singer of Sortilège). The elapsing years and the effects of a somewhat « rock-and-Roll » way-of-living, don't seem to have a hold on HANTSON, who keeps looking and sounding younger and more energetic as time goes by (a pact with the Devil has been mentioned !...). In the solid prospect of a new hyper-powerful album, regular concerts and hardcore fans, FURIOUS ZOO proves that the band sounds stronger than ever now, the months to come will, undoubtedly, be wildly « furious » for sceptical minds who thought that it’s not allowed to love different musical styles or that Renaud HANTSON didn’t want to play Hard Rock anymore !!!... With the 2010 fifth album "A.nal O.riented R.ock - Furioso V" (HANTSON's allusion about "Album Oriented Rock" american radios ) with new bass player Florent LAGALICE, the band is now more mature and clearly Big Rock oriented (Journey, Mr. Big, Toto...) and is prepared to play on stage future FURIOUS ZOO's classics like "Who Is Who", "Tied Up", "Insomnia", "Go !", "Big Boobies", "Locomotive Breath" (Jethro Tull) or more emotional tracks like "Heal Me" and "I'll Go Alone"...
