Futant Oblivion is a solo effort started by Kane Roenor (Jim Nall) in 1997. It is an effort to produce music utilizing the guitar, keyboard, and sequencer with various effects.
Without any experience in mastering or recording, attempts were, and continually are, made to develop a sound and structure to produce the best effects and musical content.
Futant is a term coined by Timothy Leary, Ph.D., former Harvard lecturer in psychology and the engine behind the peaceful Jeffersonian revolution of the 60s. Melding future and mutant, it defines those 1.5-2% of the population at any given time who are genetically programmed to be the evolutionary future scouts. (Exo-Psychology, later editions renamed Info-Psychology, 1976 )
Dr. Timothy Leary is quoted as stating:
"There is a futant genetic caste wired for the role of evolutionary agent: one who foresees and helps fabricate the future."
Hence I decided the name of my solo project would be...FUTANT OBLIVION.

Creativity. Such a word can mean so many things. Creativity can mean something somewhat abstract for some, or really abstract for others. Creativity can spread across the borders of nations and touch the hearts of those who appreciate it. If you're getting confused, I'm basically trying to say a little creativity can go a long way, and for Jim Nall's solo project Futant Oblivion, this is exceptionally true. Jim (aka Kane) has created a bizarre, yet somewhat relaxing album focused around creative ideas. "Law Of Decay" isn't just Futant Oblivion's first album, it shows us what Futant Oblivion is all about. For those of us who enjoy the REALLY abstract things in life, there is a nice little album out there called "Law Of Decay."
Kane's musical formation is something totally unexpected. The entire album sounds quite similar to something Pink Floyd would play if they took a shit load of acid. The drumming sounds like basic drumming, but I believe they are altered with samples. The snare on tracks like "Etheria" and some others sounds a bit different from a basic snare sound. The guitar work on "Law Of Decay" is nothing short of interesting. The guitars change between the sound of a groove thrash riff and a stoner rock vibe throughout the course of the album. The use of these two guitar elements help make "Law Of Decay" an amusing listen. The keyboards on "Law Of Decay" add an exotic element to the music. The keyboards usually sound a bit atmospheric at times and make the music seem more drony. The only bad part of the keyboard use I could point is the somewhat annoying notes on “Siege Of Senses.” The keyboards are really loud and high pitched, and they distract some of the music on that track.
Overall, this album is great. It’s creative, smart, and most importantly, different! If you enjoy the weird things in life, you should give “Law Of Decay” a shot.
Now I've been exposed to crazy music before (take 5/5/2000 and Fantomas, for instance), but Futant Oblivion is one of those oddballs that can outperform and conquer everything around it. In order to even understand such labeling, you must understand how avant-garde/experimental music is given proper status: It must be weird but in sync with its background; it should essentially provide its own diversity without grasping anything too out-of-line; and finally, it should be able to provide decent instrumentation regardless of individual tweaks. With all that being said, you can expect This Chosen Madness to be everything a great release of this nature represents and then some. Insanity has never sounded so good!
Tunes like the rhythm-based "Tyrant's Asunder" latch onto atmospheric ledges as other instrumental entities carefully hover above and provide musical support away from boredom. Essentially, this disc takes on an interesting atmospheric-industrial rock approach that really hits the spot if you're in the right mood for thing bigger than your sanity can grasp. But throughout these instrumental twists, the core of this observation briefly exposes itself: Futant Oblivion's personal craziness. The atmosphere is simply mind-blowing; the production twists and turns all these strange numbers into eye-opening observations; the music is way out in left-field, but that's what you're supposed to experience. In order to dissect what lies within these numbers, you have to chart ahead with an open-mind, and if you do so, then be prepared for something that'll take you to places far beyond.
To conclude, what Futant Oblivion is doing on This Chosen Madness is simply revolutionary in the sense that it puts evenly focused amounts on creativity and stellar musicianship; finding a mix as such isn't likely, but this is one of those records. When viewing this esoteric release from a beginning perspective, it might be a little easy to be lost in the crazy instrumentation, yet that's exactly the point; once you look beyond the chaos and discover the inner beauty This Chosen Madness emits, you'll love every bombastic anthem it radiates. If you have a taste for the unknown, then this absolutely astounding CD is the one you'll want.
