Fuzzgun Sniper formed in Scarborough in 2002. The original 3 members, brothers Leigh and Nick Emmerson (formerly of FilterThrust) and bassist Dave Wright (music journo and Cat Pack hornsman) spent their first 6 months writing, recording and mixing a 'sonic assuault' of electronic beats, samples, throbbing basslines and punk guitars; with a cutting lyrical backdrop of social commentary.
After a handful of early performances at Scarboroughs (now defunct) music venue, The Kazbah, the band played the H2003 Beached festival and released their debut EP 'Uncensored Overload'. By 2004 the band were giging regularly around the country gaining airplay and an interview on the BBC's Raw Talent show; and a review in the Sandman magazine, who descibed the band as "imagine Joe Strummer fronting the Chemical Brothers". By July Fuzzgun recruited dj/remixer Rich Whitiker aka Somedeadguy on synths and remixing duties, and released their first single, 'Hitman'. Legendary punk/new wave journalist Mick Mercer describad it as "truly vicious electropunk with a beat as massive as a madman’s ego, it will leave shell holes in whatever club plays it".
In 2005 the band continued to gig around the country and promote their single and EP. They bolstered their live sound even further by recruiting a second guitarist, Angus Wright, brother of Dave and former member of legendary Leeds outfit The Rampant Hormones. With the band now recieving regular radio airplay and attracting a cult following they were signed by Chromium Records for a one off single release. "Jesus Christ & Rock'n'Roll soon became a storming live anthem and set closer. By the end of the year the Raw Talent radio show asked the band back in the studio, this time to perform a live session.
In 2006 they played on the 'Love music hate racism' tour, supported Japanese punk/metalers Electric Eel Shock, played with 70's new wave band Glory Never Fades and played their fifth consective Beached festival. The BBC reviewed their festival performance..."Scarborough’s Fuzzgun Sniper are a fine example of diversity.
Their mix of electro punk funk is a sonic assault of great choruses and profound bass lines. There’s the electro beats of ‘Shoot You Down’, the fantastic punk rock of ‘Jesus Christ and Rock and Roll’ and the fusion of dance ability and trancy, quite hypnotic sounds of ‘Chicken Ranch’. All this makes them one of the highlights of the day sounding like an angst Clash fighting with Primal Scream beats".
The majority of the first half of 2007 was spent recording their self titled debut album, which recieved its official release in June. With sales topping local charts and favourable press reviews the band were asked to perform another live radio session on the More Raw show. The album was described in the press as... "inventive and driving" by The link magazine: while Sandman wrote..."blunt punk force forms the Snipers backbone and is given bristle by electronic beats that make each song a driving force; Hitman in particular perfectly captures the urgency of a blockbuster chase scene through dirty, dim-lit streets". They also once again played the norths premier free music event, the Beached festival, sharing the stage with the likes of Alabama 3, The Enemy and the Fratelis. The year was rounded off with a riotous Christmas party at the Pickwick (Scarborough) and the band gave out free copies of limited edition single 'System Zero".
In 2008 DJ Deadguy buried his synth and left to pursue a solo career. In February System Zero was reviewed in the Link magazine, they described it as "a really original synthesis of influence". The majority of the rest of the year has been spent writting and recording new material for the second album. In October Fuzzgun played The John Peel/Oxjam night at Vivaz and will be played 2 other local gigs to preview their new songs.
The first half of 2009 has been spent mixing the new album tracks for "Psycho Blues". In May the band played at the 'Tunnel Club's' opening night and the following month played Bridlington's legendary alternative venue 'The Queens'. In October Fuzzgun recruited former 5*9 and Stray Scene drummer Will Hare who added yet another dynamic punch to the bands performance at the annual 'John Peel' night at Vivaz. December sees the band perform at the 'John Lennon' night at Vivaz, organised by Love Day Fools frontman Ben Chapman.
In January next year Fuzzgun will be releasing their long awaited second album and launching the new release at the 'Tunnel Club at Mansion'. A mini promotional tour will follow playing venues in Leeds, Hull, York and Sheffield.
