"Local folk hero... heartfelt, poetic lyrics will strike a chord with the socially and politically aware as well as the lonely and broken-hearted."

"In a land of 10,000 Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan wannabes, Gabe Barnett seems like the most fitting victim to compare to those folk icons. But to do so would imply something less than genuine about this fiercely independent, grassroots folk singer. He embodies the spirit of the wandering troubadour, to be sure, but there are no gimmicks or mimicry to his music. When he sings, he stands up tall and raises his eyebrows toward the ceiling, projecting his words into the room with the unabashed earnestness that so many indie-folk kids are trying desperately to achieve. Barnett has stumbled onto the key that could unlock and then unravel the whole neo-folk movement: If you want to seem sincere, you have to mean it. He works as a full-time musician, surviving off the meager profits of his songs*, traveling with a guitar on his back, so when he sings about the evils of consumerism and the search for freedom, his words carry weight. In true West Bank folk-singer tradition, catch him gigging at clubs like the 400 Bar and the new Acadia Cafe before the wind picks up and carries him away." -City Pages(2009) ***************************************************************

I hope you've been well. Just letting you know I'm playing the Downtime once again this Saturday night. I've been playing with a few other players recently--I played at the Fine Line with accordion, violin, piano, bass, guitars, vocalists, and drums on various tracks and it was pretty fun. There's two tracks up from that show.
Keep me posted on your gigs, and if an opening comes up I'd be happy to fill in!
This clip is from the film 'Moments and Truths' included with the new Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank CD 'Traveling Show' coming out Setember 1. Order now at www.hobonephews.com Hello Gabe!!
hey gabe i don't know why myspace is acting funny, but it won't let me send you a message! anyway, if you're still looking for a band to fill that slot, on the 20th, we are definitely in. take care and thanks for thinking of us : )
long time no see, eh? I'm glad to see you're playing regular. One of Jack's good friends is moving in at my house east of Dinkytown next month--figured we could have a hoot or two there before too long.
I'm playing a free show at the Fine Line on Monday, branching into full-sound territory with accordions, violins, bass, guitars, piano, djembe. I'm pretty pumped for it.
thanks for the cd and the guitar loan. had to much beer last night to get to palmers this afternoon. I liked your How'd the World know song. hope to hear ya live soon
