Gabrielle wrote her first eight songs the summer of 2007. She had just turned 15 years old. She recorded her first CD, “Beautiful Conversations”, of 14 songs that December. By February of 2008, she was playing two hour gigs at local coffee houses charming patrons with her pure, honest sound. Her melodies were simple, her lyrics observant and thoughtful.
Music and lyrics come naturally to Gabrielle. Songs quickly matured and evolved to include haunting ballads, quirky melodies, and powerful alternative rock. Her sound is innovative and captivating while being at once soulful and heart wrenching, pure and compelling, or angry and provocative. Now two years later, Gabrielle has written 90 songs, released her 2nd CD, "don't stay too long", and continues to produce new music. When asked how she comes up with her music and lyrics, Gabrielle comments, “….they just come…both the music and lyrics at the same time. I hear them, and I can feel the music…and the lyrics just pour out. It can be at anytime of the day or night. I often wake up in the middle of the night and have to grab my guitar and play the melodies that have been playing in my mind and the words that have been reverberating while I sleep. I get up, record the new song so that I won’t forget it in the morning, and then I can go back to sleep. Or sometimes I’ll just be sitting at the piano and playing another piece and my fingers will just take me to a new melody and another song is created. It’s like the music is always with me.”
Gabrielle’s prolific songwriting appeals to all ages. Her songs reflect her feelings about the world and the people around her. She gleans inspiration from everyday events, books, frustrations, happiness, and she pours her soul into her music to convey the emotion that inspired the song. In her song “Remember” she laments about a friend when she learns the friend is suffering from depression with the lyrics, “…and I don’t want you to be drowning in a sea I can’t reach…and I don’t want to you to be locked up in a cage of unbearable pain….”. In “Deliverance”, she contemplates the disregard of those who impose their will on others and challenges them to stop and listen and respect the voices of others; in “Blue Sky Halo” she takes the simplicity of a beautiful day and weaves it into an intricate ballad that immerses you in a calm breeze. Her ability to thread words into poetry is reflected in “Perfect Rhythm” with lyrics such as “…and your pen will always glide, but the ink will lose its value…and you’ll send each perfect mistake into the distance…and I will catch all your words and step in perfect rhythm to the beat you play on your drum…”. “Bury Me Alive”, “I Should Know” and “Naming Satisfaction” are compelling, evocative and forceful while “Smile at the World” releases her quirky humor with the lyrics, “If I told you, I was a mass murderer... would you run and hide? If I told you I had ten alter egos, would you scramble afraid to see my others?” as well as
“Karma” as she was inspired while playing her guitar outside enjoying the beautiful day when a bird flew overhead and splattered bird droppings on her strings…”Sometimes, somehow I’m slapped in the face with Karma’s enduring and faithful law….Somehow a little bird’s teepee’d my guitar strings…classifying unusual happening…Out- of and extra-ordinary accidents…so here I am again…”
A natural performer, Gabrielle is at ease and confident on the stage. She began performing for her family when she was a little girl; she starred in the role as Annie in “Annie Jr.” when she was just 11 years old. She spent a year singing and dancing in show choir, and received a perfect score for her performance of “Reflection” at the Indiana State School Music Association competition when she was 12 years old. And at 15, her keen ear and innate abilities prompted her to compose and perform her own music. Gabrielle radiates her unique personality that is fascinatingly upbeat and optimistic converging with her contemplative, sensitive, and intuitive nature. The depth of her lyrics and compelling music demonstrate an awareness and maturity uncommon in someone so young. She examines the world from all angles and channels her observations and echoes the complexities of life into her songs. When asked what she wants to do with her music, she pauses and considers the question seriously. She then replies, “I just want to continue writing and singing for myself and for others. I connect with my songs, and I feel a sense of purpose when I can share them with others…like they're not just for me. The music touches me, and I guess if my lyrics or melodies touch another person to make them feel something, to connect with an emotion…..I like being a part of that. Yeah, that’s what I want to do. Make a connection.”
My Christmas Wish For You !
My Christmas wish for you, my friend !
Is not a simple one
For I wish you hope and joy and peace
Days filled with warmth and sun
I wish you love and friendship too
Throughout the coming year
Lots of laughter and happiness
To fill your world with cheer
May you count your blessings, one by one
And when totaled by the lot
May you find all you've been given
To be more than what you sought
May your journeys be short, your burdens light
May your spirit never grow old
May all your clouds have silver linings
And your rainbows pots of gold
I wish this all and so much more
May all your dreams come true
May you have a Merry Christmas friend
And a happy New Year, too ..
I wish you a merry Christmas !
Peace, love and light to you and your family always.
