TRIALS OF THE WARMLAND

The second book of Bergmann's trilogy is coming out February 22, 2008!

Cover Art Design by Laura Givens

The last of the Kamishi – Blake, Manosh, Lana, and their dog, Rita – have left their home in the North and trekked across the Great Plains until they finally reach their destination: the fabled Warmland. They arrive expecting to find a dreamlike paradise, only to discover that the Warmland has dangers all its own. The Kamishi must adapt to this hot landscape, with its thick forests, deep swamps, and giant wild animals. Lions are abundant here, and when they attack the Kamishi, Blake and his friends’ survival skills are put to the test. The travelers continue to search for a new home, but technologically advanced people abduct them for use as research subjects, and the Kamishi must devise a way to escape their laboratory prison. In time, the Kamishi reach the people of Corpus, who make their living as fishermen on the Gulf of Mexico. However, when they offend the Corpushi, their chances of acceptance seem ruined. Unwilling to give up hope, Blake and his friends serve the Corpushi in any way they can, including going on expeditions into the Gulf, or joining risky hunting trips for the largest animals on the savanna. When a hurricane strikes Corpus, the fate of the Kamishi and Corpushi alike are in jeopardy, and their survival depends on their ability to put their differences aside and work together for the common good. Trials of the Warmland is the second book in The Feral World series.

About me:

What Will Our World Look Like In The Year 5046 CE?

Migration of the Kamishi is the first book in The Feral World series. It tells the odyssey of Blake and Manosh, two young men of the Fifty-First Century, as they journey across a new and unrecognizable expanse of the Great Plains. In the Fifty-First Century, the planet has recovered from a three-thousand-year-old wound - an asteroid strike. In the middle of the Twenty-First Century, the asteroid Apophis struck the planet and wiped out civilization in a disaster of biblical proportions. Civilization was utterly ruined, and all technology - communication, transportation, power, everything - was lost. Faced with the choice to rebuild the past as it was, or to live a simpler life in harmony with nature, the few survivors chose harmony. Meanwhile, nature filled the niches left behind in the great "Rubbletown" cities and the great expanses in between. Blake and Manosh leave their home in the Badlands near Mt. Rushmore, after an invasion by a neighboring tribe massacres their village. They alone must carry the faith and legacy of the Kamishi tribe as they migrate south to the Warmland, where they hope to find safety from the coming winter. They endure only with their faith, hope, and a few stone-age tools.

Gaddy Bergmann is a naturalist and scientist, performing research in zoology and microbiology. He infuses his post-apocalyptic world with the sense that humanity has learned from its mistakes. He asks the reader to consider what would happen if the planet were given a chance to escape the endless harvesting and management of its resources and allowed to heal.

REVIEWS

Gaddy Bergmann has woven a leisurely tale that leaves you wondering the impossible. It's intermingled with action and adventures, quietude and contemplation while filling you with a sense of wonder. Could this happen to our Earth? What if this really did happen, could the world of today survive and would they choose to survive as they had before? A book I highly recommend for readers of all genres as Bergmann's book stands out on a sea of many bookshelves. Open your minds and go on a journey with the Kamishi. You won't regret it. - Michael Timlin, Authors on the Rise Book Reviews

A fantastic journey into the future!~Jamie Bergwick's, Whidbey Island - Washington stated "Gaddy Bergmann hits the scene with Migration of the Kamishi, the first novel in the Feral World trilogy. Imagine this: in twenty-two years, the asteroid Apophis strikes the Earth destroying Civilization as we know it. Against all odds, mankind survives and millennial later, in the Fifty-first century, our descendents live in a post-apocalyptic stone age. Bergmann paints us an intimate portrait of post-apocalyptic life, as we follow Blake and Manosh, two Kamishi men on their quest to find the Warmland. And with the earth unencumbered by civilization for thousands of years, you can imagine the feral beasts and trials of nature the men must face on their journey.

Bergmann's writing is beautifully descriptive - Jean M. Auel meets J.R.R. Tolkien - while never shying away from free-flowing action. I describe this book as a post-apocalyptic Clan of the Cave Bear. With a master's degree in zoology from the University of South Florida, Bergmann's science is spot-on. Beasts leap from the page with stunning realism as landscapes engulf all of your senses. Migration of the Kamishi is as much an inner journey as it is a voyage through breathtaking savannahs. Bergmann guides us straight into the heart of a man, revealing the hope and perseverance that truly make us human.

Gaddy Bergmann's book Migration of the Kamishi was a wonderfully refreshing read in regard to the post-apocalyptic genres of books. So often I find the age of technology and the dismal imagery of a world none of us wish to live in, but in Bergmann's book I found I wouldn't mind living on through the aftermath.

His writing is a far off dream wavering in the winds of time. His characters are realistic in spite of what seems like a far fetched future. I'm reminded of the nature of life's "full-circle" when I read his work and am able to make peace with the possibility of the future he presents. I found the quietude and joy I search for when wanting a book to take me on a journey . Bergmann transported me to just that place; a world where only a very talented author can take you.

I would highly recommend this book to someone who wants something different by an author who dares to take a different view of what may come of our future world. It was an adventure I'm looking forward to continuing with Bergmann as he releases his second book in the Feral World Series - Trials of the Warmland.~ Reviewed by Kristy Tallman, Psychological Thriller/Horror Author

Set in the future, after an asteroid strike has returned humans to a simpler hunting and gathering culture, Migration of the Kamishi is an extremely readable adventure story. Three resilient young people, on a quest for a better life, bring us a message from a Utopian future where nature is no longer subjugated for man's convenience. This lovely novel can be read as speculative fiction, an adventure story, or as a timely ecological reminder.

The author draws on his background in the sciences, but creates a very human narrative of triumph over adversity.

I would give this trilogy a "Newbee" award--those who haven't read science fiction before would find this a great way to begin.~ Miss Ann Thropic

A miracle is an expression of your spirit. It is a reflection of its presence in the presence of your faith. If you put your faith in your spirit, your existence will be a miraculous journey. The enemy will turn to friend; the sick will heal; the lost will be found; the problems will be resolved; the questioning will be answered and the thirst for knowledge will be satisfied. Miracles are an expression of truth, a manifestation of love. Invite your spirit into your mind and you will see the light of supreme love around you. When you share your purity with all, your world becomes a pure world. . . .
