Sounds Like
Aretha meets Annie Lennox with a little Etta James and just a touch of Mama Cass -- all surrounded by Tower of Power type horns, burning guitars, kicking B3 organ, soulful background vocals and bluesy harmonica.
GAEL MacGREGOR began her career singing in the church choir at the tender age of four, and has been belting it out ever since. Most of her early training was classical, but one day she heard "Respect" and there was no turning back. Gael would later share the stage and/or studio with many of her idols, including Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Ben Vereen and Dick Dale. After years as part of a group or someone else's background singer, Gael is finally doing her own music her own way -- combining "Good Time" Rock & Roll, Blues, Country, Gospel and R&B to form a whole new hybrid called Southern Soul. Her upcoming CD, "You Aint Too Tough" features a treasure-trove of sought-after musicians including Gary Ponder & Herman Matthews (drums), Greg Mathieson (B3), Mike Lent (guitar), Osama Afifi (bass) and many more -- including six horns, 12 strings & a rousing chorus of background singers -- all kept in line by award-winning writer & producer, Barry Coffing ("How Do You Talk To An Angel?"). "You Ain't Too Tough" is a bluesy and sassy tribute to feisty, big beautiful women everywhere!
You will soon be able purchase a number of the tracks from "You Ain't Too Tough" as well as Gael's classical Christmas album, "What Is Christmas?" RIGHT HERE at her MySpace/SNOCAP store (once they work out the tech glitches!). There's even the jazz standard-style "Memories of You" and the folksy, Celtic-flavoured "Angel On My Shoulder" (another Christmas tune) for some variety. :)
