I love bands like Placebo, panic at the disco, lost prophets, faith no more, the chilis. I also love Neds Atomic Dustbin, Kelly Clarkson, Alanis Morrisette, Pink, Anastacia, Avril, Incubus, No Doubt, Jaco Pastorius, Miles Davis as well as old school disco and funk classics, make of that what you will.
Despite the fact that my pics make me look like a hair flailing heavy metal kid i am in fact a huge fan of funk, disco and pop and as a bass player i enjoy the grrovier side of life, preferably with a healthy dollop of wah!
Despite this i have played a wide range of styles from europop to heavy metal. I have been lucky enough to share the bill with many great bands including STYX, DOKKEN, SIKTH, DANGER DANGER, THE JELLIES, MENDEED, STATETROOPER and many more who i know i should remember, but i cant!
Over the years i have played at a huge range of events, from tiny pub corners to massive televised festivals and legendary venues such as Glasgows SECC, the Hammersmith Apollo, and a bunch of others too!
I have also done a variety of session work, and have worked for many different bands, artists and producers including work for sony music and Chris Sutton (Lucie Silvas. Starship, Smokey Robinson)
I am primarily a groove based fingerstyle bass player although i do use plectrums when the song demands it.
While with TB records I released the critically acclaimed album 'Time after Time' with the uk melodic rock band 'DOUBLECROSS' which sold well across the globe, topping many melodic rock/AOR boards and was toured across the UK. 'Time after Time' is still available to buy from record stores and online retailers. (cat no: tbcd0109)
For a time i dipped a toe into metal with the popular metal band 'BALANCE OF SILENCE' who featured various on metal compilations, DVD soundtracks and on the favourite bands list of some of the biggest names in metal today. Another band i enjoyed playing with was the pop band ASHDOWNE. Playing with them opened up a subtler side to my playing and helped me focus on 'less is more' while keeping the groove and keeping the bass interesting. Playing with them saw me enjoying some excellent gigs at venues including SOUND in Londons Leicester square and the Liverpool Apollo as part of the Miss England show.
Nowadays despite living in Cheltenham i sometimes pop down to Leicester to play with a bunch of old mates, and together we have called ourselves the:'useless wooden toys' and its with these guys taht i am finally getting to live out my wah fuelled, funky pop leanings! I also occasionally play with the OZZY OSBOURNE tribute act THE WIZARDS OF OZ
