I just wanted to say how much I adored you playing Ianto.  I haven't loved a character like that in a very long time.  I'm quite devastated he's gone!  That said, you did an absolutely amazing job, and had a gorgeous, tragic good bye.  I think you're a brilliant actor, and you were a complete sweetheart and sport at Torchsong!  Please keep showing up at conventions, and let us know what you're up to so we can support you.  We'll all miss you from Torchwood...I wish you the absolute best of luck!

    Much love!

You've managed to make me cry for two days, non-stop. That's huge, I didn't cry since maybe 5 years ago.
Brilliant is the word that comes to my mind. And oh, you were the best in Torchwood. Without you in the cast the show is gone for good... hope it would be of some comfort actually!

    Keep doing so good!
    (And we're not giving up.)
    Cheers.

Okay, so I saw all the comments below mine and I just have to add my 2 cents in. I want Ianto back with the next series....if there is one. That was the most heart wrenching episode as well as the one after it. I tried so hard to watch the 5th day. It actually took my 1 hour and 30 min to watch it because I had to stop and take some breaths. The whole thing was so well acted and directed. I really really want Torchwood to continue but I don't see how after Children of Earth. =(

<33 You are an awesome actor!

Think we would all like to know if your comments on your Digital Spy interview were genuine. Seeing as the show had finished filming by then, how could you say you would like to do 4th series of Torchwood if you already knew you were getting killed off? All load of BS, old interview or do you know something we don't know

    Hi Gareth

I watched Torchwood this week and i thought it was brilliant until Ianto died :'(
It was my birthday when he did to, that wasn't a very good birthday present :'(

But overall I thought the show was amazing and your all fantastic at acting especially when the sad scenes come bcas you all make me cry :(

If there is ever a 4th seies I hope they bring Ianto back some how bcas it's not gonna be the same again without him

    Hi Gareth,

I just wanted to add my comment to the endless supply that you've doubtlessly had sent to you already.
I've never seen anything like Children of Earth on television before - it's a credit to you and the rest of the cast/crew that you've spun such an incredible story.

That being said, I'm absolutely gutted about Ianto. I've always seen him as the character who allows the "everyday" people a glimpse of the reality of Torchwood, as much as he's always been an enigma. I can't imagine anyone bringing him to life in such a way that would have the Torchwood fans react in such a way when he's taken away; that's a testament to your performances, which have impressed me throughout the series and culminated in that heartbreaking death scene (I can tell you I never thought it was possible to grow so attached to a fictional character or cry so hard for a character's death).

After watching Day Five I can't imagine Torchwood coming back for a fourth series - it seems broken beyond repair, and I can't imagine Torchwood without Ianto. He was the main reason I watch the show, and I'm adding my voice to the many who are begging for his (possible, because it IS sci-fi!) return if series 4 does go ahead.

I would love to have the opportunity to say this personally, at a convention or whatever, but this is as good as it's going to get, I think. I want to thank you for bringing Ianto to life for us - you're an incredible talent, and I can't wait to see where your career takes you next. All the best to you.

PS: What does make you is even more brilliant.
  • Jul 11 2009 11:44 PM

I hate you for making me cry like a bitch when I watched Torchwood two days ago. I guess that's good. But that doesn't make you any less responsible ¬¬
  • Jul 11 2009 8:31 PM

you did manage to keep that one a secret!

Also very gutted to see Ianto die...I just realised why the 5th episode was so utterly depressing..because there were no light Ianto quips. Eep. Death scene was beautifully done. Of course...Torchwood is now gone utterly and completely.
Looking forward to the next endeavour..hopefully a couple of BG gigs in London, yeah? It's too expensive to keep heading to Wales (as much as I love it there)
  • Jul 11 2009 5:35 PM

I'm so gutted with Ianto's death (even if it was beautifully played) BUT we wouldn't be Woodies if we didn't back up our fave character!
So maybe as a little morale boost, I'd like you and the fans to know that some brilliant mind has set up this page: www.saveiantojones.com

We will complain, bitch (but be polite) and sign petitions to get our Ianto back! And even more importantly, they've started spreading the word that all Woodies should unite and SEND OUT COFFEE (no instant if they can manage!) to the bbc. I bet they'll be pretty surprised to wake up with thousand pots of coffee on their footsteps!

Get Gareth back on the show!

In reply to Anna and everyone else as well. What made us react like that? G's brilliant acting obviously:) But how pointless Ianto's death was as well maybe?
  • Jul 11 2009 2:59 AM

Thank you for portraying my favorite television character of all time. I have never reacted so strongly to something on TV in my life.
  • Jul 11 2009 1:05 AM

I've been crying for the past two days...

I really hope RTD has promised to make it up to you (not to mention John, Eve et al...)
  • Jul 11 2009 12:42 AM

    gutted...nuff said.
  • Jul 10 2009 9:33 PM

Was upset that you not in day 5 of CoE. But now I've watched it - bet you glad you weren't. The brilliant supporting cast carried it frankly. So sorry it went that way & not even a particular mention of Ianto. You upset someone my friend.
  • Jul 10 2009 6:44 PM

First off hated day 4.  I knew it was coming but I was still shocked.  It still makes me cry every time I watch it, but I'm starting to accept it.
It was beautifully acted, so bravo to you and John.
I am still hoping Ianto comes back for series 4, because there will be a series 4, if thats what you want that is.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do with your career.
RTD, should know he lost viewers with the events in Day 4.
  • Jul 10 2009 11:15 AM

I'm sure that you've been inundated with online messages.  Hopefully, all good ones.  They are well deserved and I'm going to add mine into the pile.  Though, I am gutted by the turn of events, excellent work you did there.  Loads of great acting moments that you should be very proud of.  The fact that Ianto was a top trend in Twitter last night really says it all.  Through your talent, you brought a much beloved character alive and gave him depth that many of the fans enjoyed.  Thank you for that.  The backlash won't be pretty and will probably get ugly at times, but it just shows the passion that fans felt for the character.  I'm certain this is only the first step in a long and successful career for you.
  • Jul 10 2009 6:30 AM

Dude, what the hell! Seriously! That one came outta left field. Fucking excellent performance. Now, for making me cry, I vote that you bring Blue Gillespie to Australia soon to make up for it. Okay? Okay. Good. :P
  • Jul 10 2009 1:49 AM

You were fantastic. I wish Torchwood would get nominated for big awards, you and John seriously deserve best acting awards for that.
  • Jul 10 2009 1:48 AM

Dude.  You ARE a good actor.  We were RELENTLESS bugging you about this at Torchsong.  And you managed to put on a good show without once spoiling us to the HUGE FUCKING SECRET you had to keep.  Man...*drinking in your honor (just not with a bunch of Scots at the Embassy Suites, learned my lesson there).*
  • Jul 9 2009 10:42 PM

Sorry to hear you came down with Con Flu on the bright side you're not the only one. I'm currently held up at home with three other flu stuffed friends. Get Well Soon
  • Jun 19 2009 4:25 AM

Oh, you poor dear!  You are not alone with your case of the Con Crud.  Just about everyone we know went home with some sort of coughing malaise.  Here's hoping a bout of the flu is the worst thing to happen to you (or Ianto *ahem*) in the next few weeks.
