Born
in Southhampton, Bermuda, Ruben Demello now calls New England his
home. From a very young age Ruben had a deep passion for music. His
first exposure to live music was in church. As he would watch the
piano and Hammond B3 players play, the passion kept growing stronger.
At age 8 he began taking organ lessons and performing at Christmas
pagents and special events in church and eventually became the house
organist by age 10.
At age 13 Ruben had his first professional recording
studio session at Normandy Sound in Warren, RI playing Fender Rhodes
for the Jazz ensemble he had been performing with. While in High School
Ruben studied Music Theory and later went on to study Jazz Piano at
The Music School in Providence, RI. Ruben has toured and performed with many bands and artists. When the late blues guitarist Jeff Terra decided to tour in support of his solo CD "Groovin In The Galaxy" (Atonement Records), he recruited Ruben to handle the Hammond B3 duties. Other artists that Ruben has perfomed with include Gospel artist Ron Kenoly (Integrity Music), Tommy Moody, Terry Ilouis of XYZ, blues great James Montgomery, the legendary James Cafferty and Eddie Money. Ruben was also keyboardist and co-writer for internationally acclaimed Rock group Mars Hill. During their time together Mars Hill had two releases, Sink Or Swim (produced by Michael Sweet) and Prelude. Mars Hill also shared stages with Stryper, Shinedown, Tesla, Jani Lane (of Warrant), Vanilla Fudge, Big City Rock and Pray For The Soul Of Betty featuring American Idol Constantine Maroulis.
Ruben continues to compose, record and perform. Some of his soundtracks and music jingles have been featured on PBS, Autoxcite.com as well as regional Clear Channel radio stations and network television stations. Some of his most recent session work has included playing piano and B3 for independent folk artist Ian Fitzgerald and playing keyboards and co-writing on the Frontiers Records 80s rock project Action.
