Socialist Steve of Red Day/Galaxia's Blurbs
About me:
Hi!

My name is Steve Wallis. I am a socialist political activist and singer/songwriter currently living in Manchester.

I was involved with a band called Red Day, based in Glasgow, earlier this year and I have put some recordings we have done on this page. I hope to do further recordings with this band, but I am relaunching my Manchester band Galaxia and looking for band members. Galaxia has performed demo versions of two new songs, including Things Can Only Get Bitter mainly about British politics. Contact me (preferably by emailing revolutionarysocialiststeve@yahoo.co.uk or phoning 07725 735255) if you want to participate in Galaxia. I would also particularly welcome emails from people I used to know and have lost contact with.

I have also done a lot of recordings on my own, which I have called Socialist Musical Poetry. The Project Playlist music player widget was deleted from the page by MySpace due to copyright problems with that software. I hope to put a selection of those songs back on this page using different software in the near future; for now, you can watch videos of me performing some of my songs at demonstrations in London and Manchester. Click on the play buttons in the Music section of this page. Note that the videos don't always play, perhaps due to censorship - you can also find them on my YouTube page. You can download copies of my songs/musical poetry and browse lyrics from the musical poetry page of my socialist website. An earlier incarnation of Galaxia recorded three songs in Manchester in June 2005, just before the G8 summit at Gleneagles (Scotland) in July, including Do They Know It’s G8 Time? (my lyrics to the Band Aid song Do They Know It’s Christmas?) and The Revolution Starts Now!Note that I have improved the lyrics of the latter song considerably; the new version is called The Revolution Could Have Started Then! (which you can download from my musical poetry page).

If you want to find out more about my views, go to my socialist website at www.socialiststeve.me.uk.

Who I'd like to meet:
Priya Reddy (an Indian activist based in New York, sometimes known as “warcry”, who I wrongly suspected was a political prisoner in a psychiatric ward that she compared to Auschwitz concentration camp), Cath Bann (my greatest collaborator from 1998-2003), Rhiannon Williams (the first serious love of my life), Konnie Huq and Martine McCutcheon!

street tour
Hi there,
Its Elavi again, I am just about to start a street tour called the ‘Your City Is Mine’ tour. The first leg of the tour will be over 21 (non consecutive) days covering 21 cities, up and down the country. I know many of my friends here on MySpace have supported in many ways and I ask that you all support this tour as it is a truly independent and unique venture. I will be bringing the music straight to the people via the streets as it was the streets that brought me to this point. Therefore I am bypassing agents, promoters and the industry usually needed to make a tour happen. So it is my hope that you will support in whatever way you can. Finance is always helpful and your support in this way by buying a CD from http://www.elavi.com is greatly appreciated but other support is equally valuable for instance filming me on your phones and uploading to YouTube, MySpace etc when I hit your city, promoting it on your favorite site like twitter, Facebook or MySpace, or simply coming out to see me perform in your city. Hello to our small band of friends in and around Glasgow! Ur so important we keep you in a special folder and at last we have a good reason to send you a note. Universal You are playing at the O2 Academy this friday so it would be cool to see a few of you there if you can. If you like a big chorus and the odd wild guitar solo [and of course my stage moves ;o) ] then do come along.Tickets are £6. We have free tickets for the first 15 that want them..just say and we will leave your name on them for collection at the door. Cheers!! GI Universal You www.universalyou.co.uk

An activist in Sheffield who calls himself "Steve the Pro" has produced a very funny dance mix of the Galaxia song "The Revolution Starts Now!", including samples of some of the vocals and music in the original.

You can hear it on the Galaxia MySpace page or on this page.

Hi all.

I (Steve Wallis, aka Socialist Steve of Galaxia/Red Day/Red Friday) have placed the recording I made in June 2005 of "Do They Know It's G8 Time?", just before the G8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland, on the Galaxia MySpace page (click on the logo to the left). I have some gripes about the correctness of the lyrics and the quality of my singing, as I point out on the Galaxia website, but some of you may like to listen to it anyway. There's even some musical accompaniment, courtesy of a very good acoustic guitarist called Adam who worked at the Cutting Rooms recording studio in Manchester.

The recording I made of "The Revolution Starts Now!", with the same guitarist, is also on the Galaxia MySpace page. A newer version of the song, called "The Revolution Could Have Started Then!", that I recorded unaccompanied earlier this year (before the Scottish parliamentary elections) is on the virtual MP3 player on my personal MySpace page (that you are currently on).
