There is a gaping void in the Gallatin and New York University community. With a student body made up of countless musicians and music lovers alike, NYU has not presented its students with an outlet to share their original music. Gallatone aims to change all this by giving the local student community an encouraging and exciting opportunity to get their musical voices heard.
Our mission is simple: to create and maintain a student-run record label that releases student music to the student body and, perhaps, even beyond. Initially, we plan on releasing compilations of student music that showcase our community’s songwriters and musicians. Subsequently, Gallatone may use the profits to fund future compilations and albums spotlighting specific artists. Each year we release a record and YOUR song could be on our next issue! If you're chosen for the CD we'll promote you within the NYU and NYC communities by booking you for shows at venues like the Knitting Factory and Bitter End, putting your track on iTunes, featuring you on our website, and more!
As such, Gallatone functions as a self-sustaining, non-profit organization, which gives students the opportunity to run a record label, express their creative voices, and share their musical interests.
