REVIEW: This album has grown on me the more I listen to it. The slick production, soothing bass lines and simple melodies come together to create a sound which is very easy on the ears, while the intertwining male and female vocals of Alan Galloway and Mo Blishen merge beautifully, forming a strong kind of symbiotic relationship. His almost Nick Cave-like candor and her sweet soulfulness would probably be unable to generate the same impact separately, but together they do form something special.
This is especially apparent on the final track of the album- I Wanted to Say So - to which I’ve taken a particular shine. With all the over-produced, big budget American music we often get bombarded with here in New Zealand, it’s good to hear a local creation that’s a whole lot more real and honest.

Galloway is a two-piece project of singer/songwriter and guitarist Alan Galloway. Alan is a founding member of Wellington's long-standing pop group Let's Planet.
As a member of Let's Planet, Alan has supported international acts like REM, Crowded House, Throwing Muses and Paul Kelly. After recording three critically acclaimed albums with Let's Planet, Alan felt it was time to record an album with his duo Galloway, as he had a handful of new songs written, based around his acoustic guitar, that were not entirely suited to Planet's sound or format. Galloway have been playing regularly for the last 2-3 years around the north and south islands of New Zealand to good response.
Strong on melody and interesting lyrically, the Galloway sound centres on an intertwining of male and female vocals with a strong acoustic guitar accompaniment.
Mo Blishen, from Wellington bands The Trephines, Madlight and Fragile, provides vocals, drums, and electric guitar.
Galloway are primarily an originals band but also include a few interesting covers. They have recorded 6 songs for an EP/CD called "The closer you get the better I look". The EP/CD is available at Real Groovy and Twanghead Records and from the Galloway websites.
