Pretty much anything by Cormac McCarthy is essential. At the moment, I'm trying to read Thomas Pynchon's Against The Day, but it's hard to get into...Alas. I agree with Candy down there: Is there anyone left is absolutely beautiful, and you deserve many more accolades for it than you will probably get, which is indeed a shame. Also, out of curiosity, what member of your troupe responds to our comments? Or is it a group effort?
If you haven't read Robert Heinlein's Stranger In A Strange Land, you definitely should. It's science fiction, but it is exceedingly philosophical in nature. the Road, by Cormac McCarthy, is also pretty essential. It's a post-apocalyptic novel.
