In what was the fight of the night Jesse “The Dallas Kidd” Lara waged a brutally beautiful six round war with Bobby Joe Valdez of El Paso. Both fighters displayed commendable heart as they tore into each other from the opening bell. Neither fighter was content to let the other gain any measure of dominance in the fight as both winged thudding shot after thudding shot at each other. Both fighters were hurt throughout the contest but in the end Lara dug in deep and opened up a jaw dropping array of punches that wobbled Valdez in the sixth. A barrage of left hands by Lara eventually caused Valdez to wilt into the canvas where the referee waived a halt to the fight. The official time of the stoppage was 1:54 into the sixth round. With the win Lara continues his winning ways and improves his record to 16-1-1, 10 KOs; Valdez falls to 9-6-2, 4 KOs.
