We love watching anime and playing video games! We love hosting video game tournaments! We like playing table top games like Warhammer, Magic the Gathering, and YuGiOh. We enjoy shopping at vendor and dealer outlets. We love debating and expressing our opinions in panel discussions. We really like artwork, animation, and illustration, particularly of anime style. We love to read and collect manga. We really like music and listening to live band performances. We love to dress up in cosplay and compete in cosplay competitions. We like to eat good food, especially if it's free! We like to go out on dates, our dream date would be one in cosplay! We love to let loose and sing Karaoke! We like to DJ music and bump good music loudly!
Music
KCRH 89.9FM 2007 Broadcaster of the Year, the J-Man, will be laying down music from various anime in a movin' and grovin' set that will keep your body. Go ahead and move your feet and/or your body to your favorite anime themes and anthems as the J-Man let's loose on the turn tables, knockin' that beat an anime fan can truly appreciate!
Throughout most of the day Kin-Yoobi Con will feature live music and most of that live music consist of local bands of the San Francisco Bay Area. Many of the music our featured bands play is based off of anime and/or Japanese culture. Go ahead and loose yourself in the music, rock out to our cool bands, and enjoy the experience that only music performed live can deliver! Check the guest section of the site for detailed information about featured bands.
Movies
Kin-Yoobi Con is, after all, an anime convention, so what's an anime con without anime? Answer: not a very good one. So, of course we'll have plenty of anime to show at the con. We'll be showing anime using an LCD projector onto a big screen with a killer sound system just like in the movie theaters. So sit back, relax, and enjoy a good anime or two, or three, at the con. Check back for details regarding a listing of what we're showing and at what times.
Television
We will be showing many anime series at our anime theater. Check our website for a list of series we will be showing.
Books
Kin-Yoobi Con features a massive amount of manga in its library. This is a great event for those wanting some rest and relaxation from the hussling and bussling of the convention. You can grab a seat, chillax, and read manga. We have a large variety of manga too, including shojo, shonen, seinen, and josei. If you have a strong craving for Japanese comic books, Kin-Yoobi Con's where it's at!
Heroes
Check out the special guests that will be at Kin-Yoobi Con:
Robert Axelrod
Mr. Axelrod is also a busy voice over artist. He is the voice of Lord Zedd and Finster on the “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”. The Lord Zedd voice is one of the most recognizable character voices around. He voiced Armadillomon and Wizardmon on “Digimon, Microchip, The Punisher’s sidekick, on “Spiderman”, Rico on “Robotech”, and has voiced countless Anime features including “Akira”, “The Big O”, “Cowboy Bebop”, “Brain Scratch”, et al. As Lord Zedd, he starred in both the first Power Rangers feature film and the wildly popular live show that toured the country. He was a regular character on Saban Entertainment’s “Wowser” series (as Ratso Catso), “Journey To The Heart of the World” (as Scarface), “Hallo Spencer” (as Elmer), and more. He just finished narrating the mockumentary “Safety First: The Rise of Women and voicing four Anime series, “Gaiking”, “Danguard Ace”, “Captain Horlock”, and “The Adventures of Nadja”.
About me: Kin-Yoobi Con is a relatively new anime convention located at Chabot College in Hayward, California. Now in its third year running, Kin-Yoobi Con is developed and organized by anime and video game fans. Our first year we attracted over 100 attendees and in our second year we had over 300 attendees, but no matter how big we get we will always strive to maintain the "small con atmosphere". What we mean by "small con atmosphere" is that our central focus will be forthmost placed on you, the attendee. We will never loose focus of what is most important, anime fandom, it will always be the driving force of Kin-Yoobi Con. Each event and activity at Kin-Yoobi Con is taylor designed specifically for the interest of an anime fan. Our staff is commited to maintain an intimate fanbased relationship with our attendees, there are no "behind the scenes business executives" calling the shots here. No matter how big we get, for us, anime fandom will always come first, and everything else comes after.
Kin-Yoobi means Friday in Japanese so you might be wondering why we are called Friday Con. Well, back in 2007 when we first started we were so small we couldn't even afford Saturday and had to settle for Friday. By keeping the name we keep that mentality. A constant reminder of that "small con" mentality, that despite how little (or how much) we have, we will continue to try our best to put our love for anime forward and share it with the world.
Who I'd like to meet:
Otakus! Hardcore gamers! Cosplayers! Artists! War gamers! Fanboys! Fangirls! Casual gamers! Anime fans! Fanfiction writers! Dungeon Masters! Game Masters! Manga Readers! Table Top Gamers! Trading Card Players! Musicians! Karaoke Singers!
I could do either, I think, depending on the location of the staff member's house. I'll have to check with my ride (who's also interested in helping out), but as far as I know, neither of us has any prior commitments that day. =D
That's awesome =D I'm available Pretty much any time on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and any time before noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I can't drive though, so some days I may have problems getting a ride. I'm sure I'd be able to find transportation if needed, but I can get there for sure Mondays after 3, Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays. Although Monday is a little iffy as well. But pretty much whenever, haha, when / where do you guys normally meet?
Hey, guys! I took me a while, but I thought I'd just stop by and say that the con was awesome! Much better than last year haha. I'm a little curious as to how one could get on the planning committee. I know someone that's really interested in helping out, as am I.
