I love the Discovery Channel, Science Channel, History Channel and movies on IFC and Sundance.
BooksNeil Gaiman is my favorite. I read anything that makes me think or looks interesting, and some stuff just for fun. I read a lot of non-fiction, science fiction, mysteries and horror. I read at least a book a week.

   Angie's Blurbs
About me:

I'm originally from North Carolina now living in Washington, DC.

After high school I spent six years working in music (managed a band, managed a record store and worked in a couple of others, did band publicity, edited and published an underground music magazine, did band interviews and reviews for other 'zines, and worked a little in distribution). This has given me a very open-minded appreciation for all kinds of music. I love everything, especially metal, punk and bluegrass.

For a while recently I helped the AWESOME band The Splendors in their quest to take over the world. Their myspace page is here. Their main website is here. At the same time I worked on re-launching my music 'zine NOISE! this year. If you're in a band and want to add me just go here. The magazine itself is located here.

In 1990 I was the founder/editor/publisher of deMedici press, an alternative publishing company. We published the underground music magazine NOISE!, the underground comics Violent Youth and Comics from the Edge, the poetry magazine Words and a fiction/art/poetry/music/film magazine called Voices from the Edge. We also published a couple of chapbooks by R. Monk Habjan and Sarah Wyman. I have also been a supervisor at an independent/used book store, where I edited the store newsletter. Books are one of my great loves.

Voices from the Edge is back, but it’s completely different. It’s now a paranormal webzine. Our MySpace page can be found here. The magazine itself is located here.

I received a degree in graphic design and certificates in photography and computer graphics in 1998. I have been a free-lance graphic artist and web designer. On a related note I have also been a professional art framer, a printer and a copy-girl. Over the years I have had a few unusual jobs which included working for a Shaman/healer as a graphic artist for his shop, and hand painting flower pots for a friends flower business.

I work part-time as a barista here in DC. I'm currently completing my first cookbook. I just have the illustrations left to do, now that the hard part of writing out and re-testing the recipes is done. For fun I also run a recipe website that is dedicated to potatoes. I have also been a baker; during the holidays I baked and sold homemade cheesecakes, made from my own recipe. One day I hope to get my pastry chef license and be a professional pastry chef or baker. I also grow my own herbs and have recently developed a strong interest in herbalism and herbal medicine.

I believe art and music have the power to change the world, and all of those with a given talent should use that talent to make the world a better place.

On a cool note, my oldest and dearest friend Jamie Robertson is the man behind an awesome long-running webcomic, Clan of the Cats that can be found here. My cat Sebastian is the namesake for the cat in the comic. He also has his very own strip called 'Sebo' which is freakin' hilarious.

In several European countries, identifying the "naughty" kids at Christmastime is not Santa's job but is left to unsavory legendary icons who have endured for centuries (according to a December series of articles in Germany's Der Spiegel). In Italy, determinations are made by the extremely ugly witch La Befana, who has the ability to fly her broomstick through keyholes into bad kids' houses. In Austria, Krampus pays the naughty ones visits as a 7-foot-tall horned devil with a long tongue and a goat's head. And in the Netherlands, Sinterklaas' helper is Zwarte Piet ("Black Pete"), who, unlike Sinter, gets sooty when climbing down chimneys delivering twigs to the shoes of misbehavers. (However, the Netherlands pair has a big advantage over the North Pole-dwelling Santa, in that they reside in sunny Spain and arrive at Christmastime by steamship.

Again the Ghost sped on, above the black and heaving sea -- on, on -- until, being far away, as he told Scrooge, from any shore, they lighted on a ship. They stood beside the helmsman at the wheel, the look-out in the bow, the officers who had the watch; dark, ghostly figures in their several stations; but every man among them hummed a Christmas tune, or had a Christmas thought, or spoke below his breath to his companion of some bygone Christmas Day, with homeward hopes belonging to it. And every man on board, waking or sleeping, good or bad, had had a kinder word for another on that day than on any day in the year; and had shared to some extent in its festivities; and had remembered those he cared for at a distance, and had known that they delighted to remember him.
