Ganesh Kumar is a young Kanjira exponent (South Indian Frame Drum – Tambourine) from India. He learnt Mridangam (Double Headed Drum) from Sri T R Hari Hara Sharma and learned advance training on Kanjira from percussion maestro Sri T H Subash Chandran.
Ganesh Kumar performed with all the leading musicians in India and abroad and earned appreciation from doyens in carnatic music. He also found new techniques in this ‘one handed’ instrument and made nuances of melody from this instrument.
Ganesh Kumar received the “Fulbright Fellowship” in performing arts in the year 2000-2001 sponsored by the State Department, USA. During this period he was teaching Kanjira to the students at the Queens College, NY. He also gave workshops and master classes at Julliard’s, New School of Music, Wagner College, UN International School and other pulic schools in New York City.
He has accompanied to all the leading musicians from India including Smt M S Subbulakshmi, Sri Bala Murali Krishna, Dr L Subramaniam and other younger musicians of this age. He has also performed with western greats like Paul Horn, Victor Wooten, Glen Velez, Jeff Coffin etc., He is regular artist in the east west fusion band “Facing East” headed by flautist John Wubbenhorst. He received many titles and awards including “Yuva Kala Bharathi” and “Best Kanjira Artist” and played in many CDs and albums…
Ganesh traveled widely around the world including USSR and Japan with Dr L Subramaniam, Germany, France, Brazil, Indonesia, USA, Hong Kong, and Japan with renowned dancer and choreographer Ms Chandralekha, Dubai and Kuwait with Dr Bala Murali Krishna and many places…
