Gareth talks about his debut album and upcoming single
A brief bio...
Gareth Icke is a singer and songwriter from the Isle of Wight, England.
He was born on December 12th 1981 in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.
Almost immediately from birth his health was a concern and after 2 eye operations as a baby he was diagnosed
with perthes disease. A bone wasting condition that would confine him to a hospital bed for several weeks.
Several major operations would follow and he would be confined to a wheel
chair as a 7 year old. He was told by doctors that it would be very unlikely would ever ride a bike and very unlikely he would lead an normal life.
Scroll forward 20 years...
Gareth is 27, he is an England International Beach Soccer player, Singer, Model, Presenter and most of all, performer. Not bad for a 'cripple'.
After several teenage angst fueled 'almost successful' rock bands, he has turned his attention firmly on to his songs and onto himself. The songs he wrote were hidden behind walls of feedback and lost in translation. He has stripped them to the bare, naked vunerability in which they were written.
He and the message are all the better for it. He has lived, he has stood toe to toe with adversity and walked home to tell the tale. Every song is a journey, every melody a guide book from a far flung region of the soul, and every break of vocal or rasp of throat speaks an unedited truth.
Gareth has had his music played on radio stations in England and America including Russell Brands BBC radio 2 Saturday night show, live sessions for Kerrang Radio, BFBS and Quay Radio.
His music has been featured on Nuts TVs England Beach Soccer Show as well as articles in 442 magazine, More magazine and the Daily Star.
In June 08 Gareth was named in the top 10 unsigned solo artists in England by the 'Live & Unsigned' music competition...
Gareth has just completed his first solo national tour with two acoustic artists, Jono and jess Morgan. The tour, labelled the Liberty tour took them through the Isle of Wight, London, Norwich, Coventry, Sheffield & Glasgow. It was greatly recieved and held in high regard among the BBC & Kerrang! radio stations.
Upon his return Gareth began working with Dan Swift (Aqualung, Kasabian, Snow Patrol) on his debut solo album in London Bridge.
The album, 'It Gets Worse At Night' is available now through this site and at his live shows.
The record has been greatly received in both the UK and abroad with one biocritics review stating...
"His voice is both soothing and plaintive and moves most powerfully when the music falls back into the quietude of simple guitar picking for accompaniment; creating the kind of ambivalent tension reminiscent of a Lord Byron poem or a David Sedaris essay. Even when he's singing about the kind of loneliness that gets worse at night, there's a strange hopefulness in his voice that reassures things will all work out alright in the end."
His first single, 'It Feels Like A Race' is due out through Rush Release and Universal Distribution on July 20th. The launch will coincide with a tour of Midlands England aswell as hometown Isle of Wight shows and high profile London venues.
"I look at life like a big book and sometimes you get half way through it and go 'Even though I've been enjoying it, I've had enough. Give us another book'" Karl Pilkington

Hello, your album came and it is fantastic. It is actually so good I am pretty sure I saw this guy try to break into my house to steal it from me, obviously my shirt was off quicker than you could write a song and he quickly left, without a trace, so I can't be too sure if it was just my imagination. It came with a signed card, but I can't make it out but I think it was you so thanks for that too I really appreciate it, in a non-gay way.
