this body of work is based on a subconscious effort to connect the visual symbols of my past and present, and the two opposite environments i have inhabited. images of the forest and its' animals, juxtaposed against urban structural elements is a visual pairing that i find inspiring. when searching for imagery to etch into the steel plates, my intention was to find images that felt iconic and powerful. I am captivated by symbols and icons. the elements of design within iconic imagery can have such strong ideologic connections that they cause overpowering physical reactions. because of this, there is a mysterious quality within icons.
these pieces are icons that represent my past and present, and also the struggle between humankind and our natural environment. I look to both natural and man-made forms to find shapes, patterns and arrangements that connect the two halves. when placed together, this dichotomy of visual environments can create a perfect balance. this series of pieces attempts to convey the unity in these two forms of design.

i am fascinated by the creative power of decay. i am inspired by urban landscapes. i look to layers of decaying signage, graffiti, rust, mold and filth to create beautiful compositions full of hidden intricacies. finding these compositions, full of perfect rhythm and balance, in nature and also within man-made structures compels me to create.
this body of work focuses on destruction as a creative force. experimentations in decaying steel is the method of creative output. using nitric acid to etch, along with layers of controlled and uncontrolled rust , i re-create images found in nature as well as images of structures designed for function rather than esthetics. both sources of imagery have an intrinsic beauty that is unintended and undeniable.

Angus was not planned for, we set out to meet an older dog who was for adoption but he was not so into us and had some aggression & territorial issues. Little sausagey Angus bounded over and claimed his spot in our home.
