Influences? Are you kidding? How about all of the music I've ever heard in my life?! Well, here is SOME of the music that has inspired me more or less in the order that I discovered them:
The Beatles, the Supremes, Joni Mitchell, King Crimson, Dean Friedman, Kate Bush, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Pretenders, Blondie, the B-52's, Martha and the Muffins, the Bongos, Patti Smith, Siouxsie and the Banshees, the Cure, Polyrock, Get Wet, Philip Glass, Cocteau Twins, Richard Barone, Wim Mertens, Edith Piaf, Jane Siberry, Todd Rundgren, Shawn Colvin, Lorraine Ferro, Christine Lavin, Dan Bern, Maria Mckee, Harry Nilsson, Loki the Grump, Fountains of Wayne, the Killers, Loudlife...and so many more!

With his eclectic mix of moods and styles, Bronx-born singer/songwriter GARRY NOVIKOFF brings to mind such diverse artists as BARENAKED LADIES, PETER ALLEN and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS. Garry’s offbeat story songs, character studies and autobiographical pieces delve deep, revealing a rare frankness on such topics as modern love, sexuality, and chocolate éclairs.
Garry scored a hit with Dog on the Moon, his very first commercial release. A science-fiction folk song and character study, Dog first appeared on the compilation CD To Touch the Stars and found an immediate champion in singer/songwriter CHRISTINE LAVIN. The song has received airplay from legendary DJ JONATHAN SCHWARTZ on WNYC, BOB SHERMAN on WFUV, and has been heard on radio stations across the country, at one point tying with NATALIE MERCHANT for the number ten spot on the Folk DJ-List charts. Dog has been featured on DAILY PLANET, a TV news program on Canada's DISCOVERY CHANNEL, and has received rave reviews in POPULAR SCIENCE, SMITHSONIAN AIR AND SPACE, and SCIENCE FICTION WEEKLY.
Garry’s follow-up song, I Like Men, a deceptively innocent gay anthem, was recorded with producer (and former BONGOS front man) RICHARD BARONE. It has been heard all over the country on satellite radio’s SIRIUS OUTQ station.
Blending humor and pathos (often simultaneously), Garry brings an intensity to his live performances that is unmatched by most artists today. Garry has performed in such diverse New York venues as THE CUTTING ROOM, LINCOLN CENTER'S ALICE TULLY HALL, MERKIN HALL, the TRIAD THEATER, DON'T TELL MAMA, ROSE'S TURN, MAMA ROSE'S, the PYRAMID CLUB, CB’s GALLERY and the dearly missed BOTTOM LINE. He has also performed at the BLUEBIRD CAFE in Nashville, the LIZARD LOUNGE in Paris and has shared stages with PETE SEEGER, JANE SIBERRY, CHRISTINE LAVIN, TOM CHAPIN, and many others.
Garry has been the recipient of artistic grants from GREAT PERFORMANCES and the ANNA SOSENKO ASSIST TRUST. He has performed at a MAC/ASCAP showcase on the same bill as AVENUE Q creators JEFF MARX and BOBBY LOPEZ, and has been a featured writer/performer in the SONGWRITER'S HALL OF FAME NEW WRITER'S SHOWCASE. Several of Garry’s songs have been heard on WFUV in New York.
In 2009 Garry will release "A Normal Life", a full-length CD.
PRESS
“I am so taken with Garry’s unique brand of humor and story-telling. The songs are very sneaky. They reach up and grab you in the heart when you least expect it.”
VICTOR MIGNATTI, grammy-nominated director
"Garry Novikoff is one of the most important artists of our time.”
JULIE FLANDERS, October Project
“There is a poignancy [on the CD To Touch the Stars] when Garry Novikoff sings in “Dog on the Moon” that he dreams of being, in his next life, the first dog to touch down on Mars.”
Popular Science Magazine
“Goodnight Rabbit and Lenny (are) two aching memories swirled into heartbreaking songs of love and loss by Garry Novikoff”
BOB SHERMAN, WFUV
