About me:
I won the Democratic Primary for Polk County Sheriff on March 4, 2008. I am asking for your vote in the general election on November 4, 2008. I am a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a degree in Criminal Justice and have 20 years of combined experience in law enforcement, parole supervision, and state investigations. I am running for sheriff because I believe I can make Polk County a safer place to live for you and your family by ensuring the professional operation of our sheriff's department. When elected my first priority will be to increase patrols in all areas of Polk County, including our neighborhoods and subdivisions. Many individuals have indicated they have never seen a deputy patrolling in their neighborhood and/or feel they are not being adequately served by the sheriff's department. I will take any steps necessary to improve the law enforcement services provided to our community. I will also establish a program to closely monitor sex offenders and career criminals who live in our county. Stronger steps have to be taken to keep sexual predators from being a danger to our families and children. By working closely with probation and parole officials, these offenders can be quickly put back behind bars if they violate the conditions they are supposed to follow. When elected I will ensure that stronger steps are taken to address the illegal drug problem the county is facing. The increased selling and use of illegal drugs is leading to more thefts, burglaries, and other crimes throughout the entire county. When illegal drugs are being sold in our subdivisions and neighborhoods, immediate action needs to be taken to protect our community against the dangers and crimes associated with this activity. It is my belief the sheriff should be available to the public and have an open door policy. I will make myself available to you and listen to your concerns when elected.
