   About Gary David Sisto
Gary "Twisted" Sisto has been playing guitar since age 7. As a lad in NJ he was trained at Red Bank Music under the guidance of teacher-legend Jim McNamara, author of 1967's "Guitar Chords For Beginners". During his impressionable teen years Sisto was schooled by Jersey Shore guitar hero Bruce Wacker. As a young adult at American University in Washington, DC, he studied classical guitar under the late, great John E. Marlow--a student of Andres Segovia, founding member of The Washington Guitar Quintet (with the late Charlie Byrd), and namesake of the The John E. Marlow Guitar Series.

In early 1991 Sisto founded and led Washington, DC's progressive rock group Cathedral. Cathedral was signed by the Kinesis label and released two albums, "Kingdom Of Ends" (1992) and "There In The Shadows" (1993). Upon the release of "There In The Shadows" the band found itself opening up for Dream Theater. In the book "The Progressive Rock Files" (CG Publishing, 1998) author Jerry Lucky includes Cathedral as a contributing member of the worldwide progressive rock legacy. Cathedral is also part of the international Progarchives.

With the departure of it's keyboardist in late '93, Cathedral regrouped as Hip Omelette and recorded one more album. Hip O disbanded in late '94.

In '94-'95 Sisto worked as house guitarist for Washington, DC's artist management group Master Entertainment and played under the direction of keyboardist extraordinaire Valdez Brantley of Usher fame.

Sisto relocated to NYC in late '95 and played in a variety of outfits. In '96 he joined the Off Broadway comedy "The Bitter Poet Show" and was fortunate enough to replace the amazing Larry Mitchell as guitarist of the show's band The Sound of Angst. From '96 to '98 he also did stints with gothic metal monsters Vasaria, the drop-D power trio Beefbug (now Sweet Magma), and Wind Chill Factor (with members of Flay Of Soul) playing legendary venues such as CBGB's, Continental, Meow Mix, Don Hill's, Spiral, Under Acme, and Webster Hall.

In '99 Sisto teamed up with female vocalist powerhouse E.G. Woodard to form Full Moon Syndrome. In 2000 they released their self-titled urban folk album. Also in 2000 Sisto joined the instrumental group Funk Soul Brother playing the best of The Meters and Booker T and The MG's. Then in '01-'02 Sisto formed Plush Horses with vocalist Peter Wilson (Smile Orange) recording a three-song EP.

From '02 to early '08 Sisto appeared at the Three of Cups Lounge in the East Village late on Sunday evenings as a solo acoustic act and was featured on their album "Live In The Lounge" (2002).

During this period Sisto was fortunate enough to have taken a few guitar lessons from musical (jolly green and white) giant Francis Dunnery and a friendship was formed as Gabriel-era Genesis freaks. A highlight was going to see the uncanny tribute band The Musical Box recreate the "Selling England By The Pound" tour in NYC.

In '06 Sisto joined Xraygun and teamed up with old friends from Gutterboy and Vasaria to make psychedelic space rock, theremin and all. Xraygun imploded in Spring 2007.

For the time being Sisto continues to write and record songs in his home recording studio, and, when possible, jams out live with friends somewhere in NYC.

In 2009, Sisto has been playing guitar with his good friend Neil Nathan. Performances to date have been at NYC's The Living Room and The Bowery Ballroom!

man, I was just thinking about you!

a bunch of the Zumas started a group on Facebook and were asking about you. I know you don't want to join another site but I thought you'd appreciate that you're in peoples' hearts and minds.

yeah, I'm moving forward but it's slow. I'm finally starting to play again and I've got a solo show in Denver this weekend.

I actually just played with Michael Manring. how amazing (and surreal!) is that?!?

I'm on the clock so I gotta go, but it's great to hear from you and I hope all is rockin' with Sisto.

drop me a line if you still have the email and let me know what's news with you, brother man.

Stew
