Influences
My early synth stuff is heavily influenced by OMD and Erasure. The sample based music is basically influenced by anything trance related, other sampled music like hip hop & chilled stuff I have recorded is n't influenced by anybody really.
I am currently working on an ambient/soundtrack album. I got the idea to do this after listening to music by Moby & John Foxx.
Sounds Like
The work I did in the late 80's and early 90's definitely has an OMD sound to it, more so, there early stuff circa there early albums. My trance music is, I would say, a bit like euro trance and dance music which comes from places such as Holland, Germany and Belguim.
The ambient album I am currently working on has, I suppose, elements of some of Moby's ambient music (Especially his recent album which included the CD Ambient Hotel) and also to a degree, elements of some of the music of John Foxx. John is more well known for his synth based material rather than his ambient music but I certainly picked up a lot of ideas after listening to all his Cathedral Oceans albums which I think are great original pieces of work. All three albums are definitely worth checking out.
You can listen to a showcase of my work via the player below. Podcast 2 is also now available to listen via the player to.
I'm 46 and have had a very keen interest in music for many years. Synthesizers have fascinated since I first heard them on records by Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, OMD, Ultravox, The Human League and Depeche Mode. It was in the late 80's when I decided to write my own songs.
I formed a studio band with a good friend of mine Ray Naughton and things clicked into place very quickly and we wrote and recorded around 20 songs in a similar style to OMD & Erasure (Vince Clarke has been a big influence with my Synthpop music probably, the biggest influence of all). They were very raw recordings made on a cheap Amstrad 4 track recorder.
From there I progressed on to using an Atari computer and sequencer software packages alongside a Drum Machine. I recorded more electronic pop material and also some video soundtrack music.
I wanted to develop my skills in creating music utilising computers and have recorded about 8 or 9 Cds of material using Samples, Drum Loops and Drum Machines. The music in this field covers Dance, Trance, Chill-out & Hip Hop styles. This side of my work has been recorded under the name The Definition Of Sound. It is a collection of material I am very proud of.
I have over the last 2 or 3 years returned to Synthesizers and re-recorded a lot of the material I did with Ray to a much higher standard and in addition I have written numerous new songs and done some cover versions. One cover version I have done is a track of OMD's called "Of All The Things We've Made". This was included on an american release tribute album called "We Love You 2". I am very proud that my version of the song was worthy of inclusion on the CD.
I am currently working on a new electronic album called "The Grey Room" which is influenced by the early music of John Foxx and Gary Numan. Another project which has been worked on over the last couple of years is an electronic soundtrack album but that remains at demo stage thus far. 15 songs have been written for this project which will be worked on to completion following the release of "The Grey Room". Moby has been the inspiration behind the soundtrack album music.
I decided to send in 3 of the tracks to the BBC for inclusion on a natural history programme and whilst I was n't successful I did get through the first stages which I am very pleased about. The three songs sent to the BBC were called "The Long Goodbye", "Quiet Splendour" and "Broken Flowers".
Over the last couple of years I have recorded numerous cover versions of classic electronic tracks from the likes of Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Blancmange & Gary Numan plus a host of other artists. I am finishing off a Dub Mix album of 6 of the cover versions I have recorded which includes, the Blancmange track "Living On The Ceiling", Gary Numan's "Cars", Depeche Mode's "John The Revelator", Yazoo's "Bad Connection", The Human League's "The Sound Of The Crowd" and Joy division's "She's Lost Control". The album features my own dub arrangements of the songs.
I also continue to produce Dance/Trance/Lounge & Chill Out music under the name "The Definition Of Sound" which I now have a Myspace page to cover that side of my music. You will find a link to the Myspace page for "The Definition Of Sound" below.
Please note that the copyright on the music on this site is owned by Big Noise Music.
I have decided to have a separate Myspace page for my Dance/Trance/Lounge & Chill Out music as I work under the name "The Definition Of Sound" for this side of my music. You can visit that page by clicking the link above.

I have furthered my internet presence with another web page. This time on BTPodshow.Com. This came about when my track "Rain" was played on the Podcast Radio show Bite Size Bonus. The page will host any Podcasts my music appears on as well as some of my video's I have made. To check the content out simply click on the link above.
I have a new web page on the newly formed icompositions network. This is looking a very promising place for unsigned music artists and I highly recommend you check them out.

A new feature has been added which enables you to join my newsletter mailing list for regular updates and exclusive free tracks. You can join by completing the form below.

Simply click on the song you want to listen to and click on the play button on the player. This gives me greater scope to showcase my music here on Myspace and will be updated from time to time and will include material that has n't been available before.
