I am pleased to announce that a track of mine called "Stranger In A Room" is to be included on a compilation album called "Here We Go - The Other Side Of Metal Beat" and is an album of material from artists who have been influenced by the music of John Foxx (John has released several albums including the ground breaking album "Metamatic" and enjoyed chart success in the 80's with several singles including "Underpass", "No One Driving" and "Europe After The Rain"). Included on the CD released on August the 25th 2008 are exclusive tracks from Louis Gordon (Who has released several albums with John Foxx and also works with John on live dates) and Ann Clarke and a host of very talented unsigned artists.

The CD is released on the Toffeetones label and is a very special limited edition of 100 copies so as you can imagine this could very well become a collectors item! You can find out more about this release via the link below. Finally as well as this release there will be a John Foxx themed Robo Cast Radio special made available on the same day the CD is released.

Here We Go - The Other Side Of Metal Beat Information

InfluencesMy early synth stuff is heavily influenced by OMD and Erasure. The sample based music is basically influenced by anything trance related, other sampled music like hip hop & chilled stuff I have recorded is n't influenced by anybody really.

I am currently working on an ambient/soundtrack album. I got the idea to do this after listening to music by Moby & John Foxx.

Sounds LikeThe work I did in the late 80's and early 90's definitely has an OMD sound to it, more so, there early stuff circa there early albums. My trance music is, I would say, a bit like euro trance and dance music which comes from places such as Holland, Germany and Belguim.

The ambient album I am currently working on has, I suppose, elements of some of Moby's ambient music (Especially his recent album which included the CD Ambient Hotel) and also to a degree, elements of some of the music of John Foxx. John is more well known for his synth based material rather than his ambient music but I certainly picked up a lot of ideas after listening to all his Cathedral Oceans albums which I think are great original pieces of work. All three albums are definitely worth checking out.

You can listen to a showcase of my work via the player below. Podcast 2 is also now available to listen via the player to.

   About Gary Hunter

I'm 45 and have had a very keen interest in music for many years. Synthesizers have fascinated since I first heard them on records by Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, OMD, Ultravox, The Human League and Depeche Mode. It was in the late 80's when I decided to write my own songs.

I formed a studio band with a good friend of mine Ray Naughton and things clicked into place very quickly and we wrote and recorded around 20 songs in a similar style to OMD & Erasure (Vince Clarke has been a big influence with my Synthpop music probably, the biggest influence of all). They were very raw recordings made on a cheap Amstrad 4 track recorder. From there I progressed on to using an Atari computer and sequencer software packages alongside a Drum Machine. I recorded more electronic pop material and also some video soundtrack music.

I wanted to develop my skills in creating music utilising computers and have recorded about 8 or 9 Cds of material using Samples, Drum Loops and Drum Machines. The music in this field covers Dance, Trance, Chill-out & Hip Hop styles. This side of my work has been recorded under the name The Definition Of Sound. It is a collection of material I am very proud of.

I have over the last 2 or 3 years returned to Synthesizers and re-recorded a lot of the material I did with Ray to a much higher standard and in addition I have written numerous new songs and done some cover versions. One cover version I have done is a track of OMD's called "Of All The Things We've Made". This was included on an american release tribute album called "We Love You 2". I am very proud that my version of the song was worthy of inclusion on the CD.

My latest project is an interesting one as I have decided to record an album of Ambient/soundtrack Music and decided I would only use layered strings, Choir sounds and piano. It has resulted in me learning Cubase, a programme I have wanted to use for some time. So far 15 songs have been written and I am currently working at mixing those. Moby's ambient music has been the key influence with this material.

I decided to send in 3 of the tracks to the BBC for inclusion on a natural history programme and whilst I was n't successful I did get through the first stages which I am very pleased about. The three songs sent to the BBC were called "The Long Goodbye", "Quiet Splendour" and "Broken Flowers".

Hello Gary !
Long time no see, sorry for that, I was too much into my things, I'm afraid...
Of course, I LIKE your Gary Numan last cover very MUCH ! After all, you english people, invented electronic pop-rock music (among other things), so it's your heritage !

Hey Gary hope your well mate, great news about your track "Stranger in a room" being released on the John Foxx inspired CD Album, "Hes a Liquid" a good attempt that works well and is enjoyable, good work is paying off for you, i've also retitled my track "Hallow Embers" i felt the track had a slight feel good Autumnal feel about it and I'm happy with that now, when everything is completed for the Album you will have a copy sent to you, so until then, keep up the great work Mr Hunter :), peace, Gary.
