Review of "Renewal" from 20th Century Guitar Magazine
"The advent of home recording and CD duping has done wonders for the DIY spirit. Inspired by jazz-rock legends like Al Di Meola and Yngwie Malmsteen, Illinois-based guitarist Gary Kuhstoss recently released his second all instrumental CD. With the exception of added guitar parts by David Cho, Kuhstoss performs everything on Renewal himself including drum machines, keyboards, midi sequencing as well as all electric and acoustic guitars. Despite the general lo-fi nature of the whole affair, Renewal holds it's own as an atmospheric, guitar-based outing and in general sounds pretty darn good. Described by Kuhstoss as more aggressive than his earlier work, Renewal is a welcome move from a guitarist with an expansive musical imagination and the chops to back it up."
