About Gary Murphy

Highly regarded as one of the finest guitarists in the UK, receiving several local and nationwide awards, Merseyside's Gary Murphy's guitar playing has a very unique and diverse style, on both the electric and acoustic guitar. He is an ambassador for The International Guitar Festival of Great Britain.

Performing from an early age, Gary has played all over the UK, Europe and has successfully toured Belgium and many times over, headlining several festivals. After performing in several bands, including the much loved Merseyside band Casino, and the successful recording band Hotel UK, Gary decided to perform solo. With several original albums including the award winning 'Here Comes the Rain', and 'Dangerous' his performances offer a diverse style of guitar classics and own material, on both electric and acoustic guitar.

Winning best guitarist on Merseyside three times in recent years from The Buz Magazine, and his albums having regular airplay on BBC Radio Merseyside, his guitar playing is considered second to none by fans and critics alike. Gary has played several festivals in Belgium and the UK, The Liverpool Empire, The Liverpool Philharmonic Theatre, The Liverpool Echo Arena, The Pacific Road Theatre and several performances at The Floral Pavilion Theatre.

After playing the International Guitar Festival every year since it first began in 1986, in 2005 he and close friend Paul Brooks had huge success performing their stage show of Jeff Wayne's 'War of the worlds' and wowed a sell-out audience at The Floral Pavilion Theatre in New Brighton.

Gary’s project ‘Guitar Legends’ made its debut at The Floral Pavilion Theatre in 2007. The production involved staging the history of the guitar from the 1920s to present date, showcasing some of the pioneering guitarists in music history through various guitar styles from jazz, blues, country and rock.. The show has had rave reviews and has returned to theatres several times, including its first appearance in Liverpool at The Philharmonic Hall in 2008. The show will be returning to theatres in 2010 with a new production being written and produced.

As well as performing, Gary has been the musical director at several big events including Radio Merseyside’s 40 years of music and laughter show in 2007. Gary and the band performed with Ian McNabb, Pete Wylie, The Christians, The Mersey beats, Up and Running and Liz Mclarnon from Atomic Kitten, as well as Gerry Marsden, The Searchers and The Swinging Blue Jeans at The Liverpool Empire.

Gary and the band also performed a set at The Liverpool Echo Arena for the Rhys Jones concert in 2008, along with backing such greats as Liverpool Express, Kenny Parry, The Christians and Love Potion for what was described as one of the most emotional nights ever.

The Band performed on The Mathew Street Festival in Liverpool on Sunday 24th August 2008 on The Water Street 'Guitar Hero' Stage, and returned in 2009 to headline 2 stages – Opening as a Dire Straits tribute and closing the evening performing a Gary Moore Tribute set.

Gary Murphy had the honour of becoming an ambassador for The Guitar Festival in 2008. He has appeared on television many times promoting the guitar festival, performing with Focus’ Jan Ackerman and Albert Lee.

Gary has performed master classes at Liverpool’s Institution of Performing Arts (LIPA) for guitar technique and has worked with LIPA’S young orchestra in his latest show at The Floral Pavilion (2009)

Hi Gary, Just wanted to say thanks for the brilliant entertainment at The Empire on Sunday. I bought tickets for my wife's Christmas Present and we both had a fantastic night. Would loved to have seen a bit more of Jade Gallagher but other than that, it was fantastic.
