hertfordshire based writer, producer and remixer gary j robinson broke into the underground music scene in mid 1997 due to the unexpected success of a number of cutting edge web sites he designed and launched for some of the u.k underground music scenes key players.
some of the early editions to gary's soon to be legendary roster included aerosoul clothing, blu mar ten, goldie, maximum boost, metalheadz, and technique recordings. working closely with such high profile artists gave gary the contacts and the resource to launch the long time planned 'new vision recordings' with a bang!
total science who where close friends put him in touch with the stage one music company who showed great interest in his concept and helped to get the ball rolling with distribution, publishing and manufacturing.
in its first three years nvr enjoyed success on the u.k. drum & bass scene with its most popular tune being the classic 'spinechilla' which gained heavy weight dj support, mainstream radio air play and world wide record sales in the thousands. spinechilla's impact later saw it land a number of major international television licences as well as being the instrumental backing for a remix of christina aguilera's classic 'genie in a bottle' single for rca records.
remixes in the mainstream
the success of the genie in a bottle remix lead to rareform remixing many popular music acts including ...
since the launch of nvr gary has gone through many avenues with his music, the first major project being rareform live. the five-piece drum & bass band enjoyed many successful live shows in the u.k. and europe during their reign in the nvr camp. however, the start of the new millennium saw rareform taken a step further. a new album was written incorporating many different styles of dance music from drum & bass to house and hip hop tracks with song based arrangements.
the album was co-written and produced with newcomer to the family jonathan vaughan. a new six-piece band was put together for the project, which was soon to be re-named and re-branded as hard dance act 'poisonflow'. on hearing the early demos, london based label kickin music snapped up the album.
the move into television
gary is also involved heavily in writing and producing music for television. working with various agencies in europe and the united states has seen his tracks used on tv shows world wide including big brother (mexico), date my mom,
driven, east enders (bbc), making the band 2, miss universe, my super sweet 16, the oprah winfrey show, pimp my ride, power rangers, punk'd, room raiders and the shield.
as well as material for a number of television channels and networks such as a&e, axn, discovery, e, food network, fox, mtv, national geographical, the history channel, the sci-fi channel, the weather channel and vh1.
other notable licences include the use of tracks by nike for billboard advertisements in times square, new york as well as tracks for the 2006 fifa world cup official guide, mtv's v for vendetta unmasked special and
new line cinema's web promo for the antonio banderas movie 'take the lead'.
With a history of invention spanning such diverse creations as the telephone, golf and economics, Scotland has proven itself to be at the forefront of well, basically, genius. To prove this once again, Nerve Recordings have focused on this part of the world for it's new release - The Intercity EP, featuring producers spread the length and breadth of Scotland (with a guest appearance from Singapore). From the dubby beats of Morphy to the techy futurism of Velocet, most of the sub genre's of drum n bass make an appearance here and show the quality and diversity of the production talent in the country. Starting with the tough beats of "Ruffneck" through to Linden's smooth roller "Day by Day" and finishing on two slabs of downtempo in the shape of Velocet's epic "Go With The Flaw" and the doom laden sounds of "Not In My Town" from the Figures of the Lost Dawn.
Tracklisting:
1) "Ruffneck" - Morphy 2) "Awaken Life" - Velocet & Paul Reset 3) "Island Rock" - Morphy & Kiat 4) "Day By Day" - Linden 5) "Tenma" - 9 Tails Fox 6) "Positive Vibes" - BZ 7) "Go With The Flaw" - Velocet 8) "Not In My Town" - The Figures of the Lost Dawn
