Gary Thain was born in Christchurch New Zealand on May 15th 1948.
He played in a number of New Zealand bands in the early 60's including The Strangers, The Secrets and Me and the Others. With his NZ bands he also was supporting some US stars who toured New Zealand. After 'Me and the Others' split up, he formed 'The New Nadir' with Peter Dawkins and Ed Carter.
Back in the UK then he joined 'The Keef Hartley Band', he played on 4 albums from 1968-1971 and he played at the Woodstock festival in 1969, during his KHB time he also contributed to Miller Anderson's 'Bright City' and to Martha Velez 'Friends and Angels'.
In 1972 he joined Uriah Heep and between 72 and 1975 recorded 4 studio albums and 1 live album.
He left Uriah Heep in 1975, started to concentrate on song writing. He was about to form a new band and did a demo tape, when he sadly died in December 1975.
Apart from his musical legacy he left two daughters, Karen and Natalie, and a son, Patrick.

I got the book from amazon (didnt realize there are signed copies as well, otherwise would have gone for one!) and I'm halfway through, and I'm taking a sick leave from work tomorrow to finish it!!! Once started it keeps you occupied! Shows what a great guy Gary was. Suzy
