I think that it all starts with my Hungarian Grandfather, John Zoldos. He used to sing to me when I was very young. He'd also play the fiddle for me (little bit of gypsy spirit in him). My Mom tells me stories about people stopping her and saying "what a cute little boy, what's his name" and she tells me my reply was "Ricky Nelson." I guess that old "Ozzy & Harriet" episodes were popular in our house. Even then, I wanted to be in a band to get chicks! Thinking back, at the end of some episodes, Ricky would sit on the porch and sing and play the guitar and was always surrounded by and getting the attention of girls. How cool is that? Growing up, I always looked up tp my oldest cousin (the oldest Zoldos!), Darb. Darb played me some C.C.R and that was it. So I was the coolest kid in Elementary School who's first slab of vinyl was "Travelin' Band" & "Who'll Stop the Rain", complete with picture sleeve. THEN I discovered The Rolling Stones and "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out!" - Wow buy a whole album and you get TEN songs instead of two. (Thank you Mick and Keith, you transformed the honor student into a COOL honor student). My Dad was the greatest. He encouraged my love for the Stones by driving me to (and picking me up from) Midnight Showings of "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones." Could there be anyone cooler than Keith Richards? He also promised to get me a ticket to see The Rolling Stones if they ever came to Buffalo and when they did, he not only kept his promise, he drove my friends and I to (and picked us up from) MY FIRST CONCERT which was attended by 80,000 plus. He fought that traffic for me FOUR times. God Bless him!
Next up: I enter High School and discover punk rock and start my first band! (To be continued)...
