Gaslight Society is a band out of Washington DC dedicated to bridging the gap between modern garage rock and classic blues.
The band was formed under the name Masked Marvel in August 2005 when singer Janet Pinkham responded to an ad placed by guitarist Steve Losey, who was looking to form a band with people “just as comfortable playing the Clash as Muddy Waters.” They soon found they had a common love of all kinds of music—alternative and classic rock, alt-country, and classic blues and country—and modern performers such as Beck, the White Stripes and the Black Keys showed Steve and Janet new ways to bring the feel and spirit of old blues music into the 21st century.
With Jebus alum Dave Bjerke on drums and Steve Kaufman, formerly of Trip Lizard, on bass, Gaslight Society began recording their first album in May. Watch for more news soon.
Cool meeting you too. We'll keep you guys in mind and vice versa. You guys have great energy, I'm sure we could combine into fun shows! We're cool to open as well, just gotta spread it around right now, so let us know and we'll do the same.
Hey Gaslight Society...have you ever thought of doing any covers of songs by "The Gits"? I think you could pull it off. If you haven't heard of them, they're streaming on my page.
Yeah, why not! We've only played one VA show but we've played like a dozen PA shows. Make sense of that, will ya? But, seriously, we'd love to do more in VA. And definitely with you.
Hey, we got first place last night in round 2! We're so psyched.
I don't know if Masked Marvel can drink more than me... that sounds more like a dare... Had a great time playing with you guys and I can't wait til we play together again... I'll definitely be in touch to set something up
New Hampshire is where it's at. There's actually a "Pinkham Notch" in the White Mountains. I'm sure that's gotta get me some sort of cred. Oh, and I have plenty o' relatives in Maine. (Yankee dad, Confederate mom. Which forced me to eventually go west!)
Hi Masked Marvel! I found your link on my boyfriend's page, and I am an instant fan. Your lead singer's voice sounds like Debbie Harry, which is AWESOME. I am now sad that I no longer live in the DC area, but if you ever want to tour Illinois, I can round up some fans!
Steve - we really need to be more aggressive with this myspace thing. Like, we should be sending out bulletins every 5 minutes, and reposting, and sending annoying "friend me" requests to people who would definitely not care. We should be ramming Masked Marvel down the throats of everyone we know and guilt them into attending our shows. We need to gather together exceedingly thoughtful yet trendy band pics and post them. There.
Dis shit IZ libidinous!...where my 12 ", muthafucka? Ronan gos t' filet dis here song...dis my JAM, man! Like a goddamn botticelli! (that's what HE said)
Alright, Steve, you put up those Lizard pics with my face looking like a squash after I begged you not to...that's it! I'm quitting the band...so long, sucka...and oh by the way, thanks for getting me addicted to myspace...like my carpal tunnel wasn't bad enough before.
