The video work
ARCHIVE FEVER was created by Tom Estes in 2004 as part of a project for
The Permanent Art Collection at Central St. Martins College of Art and
Design and for The National Arts Library at the Victoria and Albert
Museum in London. The work is ostensibly about an anonymous sexual
encounter, but as the title suggests it also deals with the modern
preoccupation of recording and archiving 'everything'. The National
Arts Library is a public repository of what is thought to be important
and while the work 'Archive Fever' suggests that life is really what
happens between the events that are 'archived', the work was assessed
and then refused by the Library.
