About me:
The inaugural Gate City Women’s Film Festival will be held during Women’s History Month in March of 2008. The mission of Gate City is to foster creative development of women within the film community. This will be accomplished by celebrating the creative accomplishments of women as well as by giving them an outlet to screen their work.
Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, NC will host the festival on March 14 and 15th. All in competition films will be screened during the evenings. During the day on March 15th we will have a variety of events such as filmmaker panels, lectures, and screenings of films that are not in competition.
The festival will be run by students in the Journalism and Media Studies department at Bennett College for Women. By involving these students the festival aims to empower future generations of women in the media. These students will be responsible for programming, advertising, and the general operations of the festival. Greensboro is a city that has embraced the education of women throughout its history. Three of the five colleges and universities located in the city were chartered as women’s institutions. Gate City Women’s Film Festival will continue in this tradition of celebrating the potential of women.
Gate City Women’s Film Festival will accept films in the experimental, documentary, animation, and narrative categories. The films do not have to be about women, but they must be directed by a woman or women.
