About me:

We call him the master of all things musical- you know him as Synyster Gates. Syn was born Brian Elwin Haner Jr, named after his father, Brian Elwin Haner Sr. He made this world a better place on July 7, 1981 and has the sign Cancer. He is currently engaged to Michelle DiBenedetto, twin sister of Matt Sanders wife, Valary DiBenedetto. Brian and Matt are both in a band by the name of Avenged Sevenfold which was started in 1999. Syn did not actually start playing for A7X [Avenged Sevenfold] until 2001, when they remade their first full-length record [Sounding the Seventh Trumpet] with Hopeless Records. However, he was featured in the bands first EP, Warmness on the Soul. Apart from Johnny Christ [fellow bassist of the band], all of the guys in Avenged attended Huntington High School. After high school, Syn attended the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California as a part of the GIT program, studying jazz guitar. In Avenged Sevenfold’s 2007 release of All Excess, their first DVD, Syn describes exactly how he got his stage name, he said that he was “driving around drunk in a park with The Rev when he shouted I AM SYNYSTER GATES AND I’M AWESOME! And the name has stuck ever since.” Syn’s gratest influences include: Django Reinhardt, Adam Aparicio, Dimebag Darrell, Slash, and Francis Canavan. Syn has won awards such as Metal Hammer’s “Young Shredder” award in 2006 and Total Guitar Magazine’s “Guitarist of the Year” award in 2006. In a video of him receiving “Guitarist of the Year” you can hear him pay tribute to Dimebag. As the years have progressed since Syn entered the band, you hear many of his talents: guitaring it up, background singing, and his everlasting piano skills; although sometimes, Avenged calls in the troops and Papa Gates steps up to the plate. Brian’s dad, Brian Haner Sr.[AKA Papa Gates], is often referred to as Avenged Sevenfold’s official acoustic guitarist for his appearances on there albums, and his shredding solos in City of Evil’s, “Sidewinder” and “MIA”.
Before Avenged was ever a thought, Brian was involved in a band by the name of Pinkly Smooth, at which he played in with Jimmy [the Rev] and Justin Sane [former A7X bassist.] It is now a side project, considering A7X is a full-time job. Syn has recently created a clothing line by the name of Syn Gates Clothing [SGC] which you can find on their myspace or syngatesclothing.com. This is a project he works on with help from his fiancée, Michelle.
Equipment: Syn is currently endorsed by Schecter Guitar Research and mainly uses a Hellraiser Avenger, the Synyster Custom Shop Avenger, and the C-1 FR guitars. Most of Syn’s guitars are custom made. He uses Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader pickups in his guitars. He uses and owns many different variations of the Synyster Custom. Designs including: the American flag, the German flag, and the Rebel flag. There is a new model in the works which is featured in the “Afterlife” video. It is an all white Synyster Custom with gold stripes and gold hardware. Before Schecter Guitars, Syn used the Gibson Les Paul, the Parker Fly, and the Ibanez RG Prestige
Zacky Vengeance was born December 11th, 1981. His real names is Zachary James Baker. Zack is half German and half Italian, but he is more bragadocious about his Italian roots. ZV has a truly supportive family, they go long distances to see him play. His mother's name is Maria and his father is James Baker. He has an older sister and a brother. Zina, his older sister has two lovely children. Gianna and Gavin. Matt Baker is ZV's little brother.
Our boy Zacky is a devoted baseball fan. He says if he didn't have a career in music he would've had a career in MLB. He is approximately 5'8" and is left handed. ZV is a Sagittarius, now you can do your compatibility calculation with him. Don't play games, I know you want to.
During live performances, Syn and Zacky stand side my side, making a resemblance to bat wings ;).
Zack started playing guitar at 13 and taught himself. Zacky taught himself on his dad's guitar which was meant for a righty so he played upside down. He practiced as much as he could and watched his favorite bands. He would also read ever issue of Gutiar World cover to cover, learning the tabs of songs published in the magazine.
Before Zack played in A7X he was in another band called MPA. Which stood for Mad Porno Action.
Zacky states in "All Excess" that MPA was asked to play at HBH and after the set he was arrested and accused of stealing the microphones used. He adds in his defense that he doesn't even think he stole them.
ZV chose "Vengeance" as his stage name because he had a lot of bitter feelings towards the people in high school and wanted to reap Vengeance upon them...in a subtle way. Like being in a popular band. Zacky is one of the founding members of Avenged, the Shad Man is the other.
Zack came up with the abbreviation, A7X. A=AVENGED, 7, X= can stand for a FOLD =)
ZV also came up with Johnny Christ's stage name. Johnny recalls in "All Excess" that it was ballsy and he had to go for it. Zacky V started a clothing line which is called "Vengeance University".
Zacky has been in a longterm relationship with Gena Paulhus and they keep their relationship private. Gena is also ZV's hairdresser.
Random Facts:
Zacky has 38 tattoos and 5 pieercings.
His favorite candy is Sour Patch Kids.
Has a terrible habit of saying "Ya Know" repeatedly.
Favorite Drink: Pale Ale
Favorite Cigarettes: Like Syn, Marlboro Reds.

Johnny Christ = Amazing Bass Player.
Johnny's real name is Jonathan Lewis Seward.
He was born November 18th, 1984. Making him a whopping 24 years old!
JC met all the members of A7X in various ways. He claims the Rev use to pick on him in Kindergarten.
Synyster Gates met him through his older brother as well as the rest of the guys.
Johnny would walk down to Matt's garage and tell them their bassist sucked and they should let him play.
Johnny's personal life is sort of a mystery. There isn't quite as much info floating about with him, but when we find out more, it will be added on here!
Johnny has a beautiful girlfriend by the name of Lacey Franklin.
She is the same age as Johnny.
Johnny initially took a few weeks off from high school during his senior year to fill in for Avenged Sevenfold's previous bassist, Dameon Ash, during one of their tours. These few weeks would become permanent as Johnny dropped out of high school to become the band's current bassist.
His two biggest influences are Cliff Burton (now deceased bassist for Metallica) and Duff McKagan (the bassist from Velvet Revolver and formerly Guns N Roses). The person that inspired him the most to pick up a bass was Les Claypool, the bassist and vocalist from Primus.
JC's playing style is never one solid thing, but most of the time he does play with a pick.
Johnny first recorded on their second album Waking the Fallen.
He used to write only Johnny on his autographs until Zacky came up with the name 'Johnny Christ', and in All Excess he said, "That sounds... really ballsy. Everyone's gonna hate that, so... I should definitely get with that." He resides in Huntington Beach, Orange County.

“They’re cheesy. They sing nowadays; they should scream like they used to. They’re sellouts.”
They fight. They fuck. They destroy hotel rooms.
They’re misunderstood.
They are warm. They are loyal. They are brave. They are authentic.
They are disciplined.
As musicians, the members of Avenged Sevenfold are definite virtuosos in a time when being accomplished artists seemingly means so little. They are inquisitive and never fully satisfied with their own work. They seek to grow and improve every day, regardless of the obstacles or costs involved.
They are a rock band. They are rock stars. They are Avenged Sevenfold.
Avenged Sevenfold, the album, is a self-produced effort. While the band shared co-production credit on 2005’s million-selling City Of Evil with Mudrock, this new album is solely their responsibility — and they’re primed to accept it.
But attaining such stature didn’t arrive in an overnight jaunt. To the contrary, Avenged Sevenfold had been an integral part of the independent, underground rock scene years before breaking through on commercial radio. In fact, the Orange County, California-based act launched its career several years ago (they were barely out of high school) with the release of its debut in July 2001 of Sounding The Seventh Trumpet.
Miles of van touring ensued, performing in tightly packed clubs, and sweating shoulder-to-shoulder on both national and international levels. Despite the truly D.I.Y. affair (which still found the fledgling act putting on an eye-opening, elaborate stage show), Avenged Sevenfold never offered anything less than a full-throttle set. The band released its second independent full-length in August 2003, Waking The Fallen, a couple years later, greatly expanding on its metal-based foundation and giving us a not-so-subtle nudge that something exciting was in the imminent forecast.
Our suspicions were confirmed a couple years later, with Avenged Sevenfold’s breakthrough 2005 Warner Bros. debut, City Of Evil, featuring the wildly popular single “Bat Country.” That was the turning point for the fearless, genre-bending quintet that, after years of clocking in on the independent level, had finally advanced towards a milestone they had been seeking throughout their careers.
A7X wrapped 18 months of relentless touring in October 2006 and immediately began writing Avenged Sevenfold. After the success of City Of Evil — where they proved they had truly captured the imagination of music fans of all shapes and sizes — they became the only band to headline Warped Tour and Ozzfest while simultaneously hitting Number One on MTV’s TRL. The natural question was whether the band would continue its creative odyssey or return to the formula that brought them such success on the last go-around. Thankfully, they continued their musical exploration without caving in to any outside influences.
For this self-titled release, the act returned to the garage at M. Shadows’ parents’ home where these high-school friends had penned every other song in their discography. The band sought to delve into genres and recording techniques they had discovered on the road. For instance, they wanted to incorporate the narrative lyrics and biting guitar tones they’d admired in country music, as well as the powerful bottom end of hip-hop they felt would only add to the power of their music and message.
“All those months on the bus we really weren’t finding new rock that was moving us,” says frontman M. Shadows. “Instead, we were listening to everything from Toby Keith to T.I., and finding elements we could incorporate into what we were doing to make our next record more interesting to us.”
In the studio, Avenged Sevenfold enlisted engineers Fred Archambault and Dave Schiffman (System Of A Down, Johnny Cash, Red Hot Chili Peppers), and the team went to work.
The resulting sound and rhythm of Avenged Sevenfold is, in a word, eclectic. Yet it’s still trademark A7X. “‘Scream’ has a groove we really wanted to inject into this record,” says guitarist Synyster Gates. “And on ‘Lost,’ you can hear the influence melodic bands like NOFX have always had on our band.”
A7X composed the string sections, including the individual instrument orchestration, with the assistance of Marc Mann and Steve Bartek from Oingo Boingo (and who currently orchestrate for Danny Elfman). With the soaring strings in “Afterlife,” the haunting and theatrical performance of “A Little Piece Of Heaven,” or the gentle vocals of a child in “Unbound,” the band’s creative and varied approach is surprising. Percussionist Lenny Castro brought a dynamic to “Brompton Cocktail,” and noted pedal steel and banjo player Greg Leisz added a country flair to the song “Dear God.” Yet as Gates adds, “it’s the dueling guitars, Shadows’ voice and the Rev’s brutality that make every one of the songs sound like Avenged Sevenfold.”
Lyrically, Shadows was striving for something more personal on the new album. “I feel we all experience a certain inner conflict, the push and pull between how we think we should act, or want to act, and the temptations and human instincts that we often blame when we don’t end up being the person we want to be.”
In fact, the album’s first single, “Almost Easy,” focuses on more similar temptations. “Afterlife” addresses the notion of “memento mori,” or the need to remember that death may intervene before we have reconciled differences with friends or loved ones.
These guys worked their asses off making Avenged Sevenfold (enlisting studio legend Andy Wallace to mix the record), literally sweating every detail with the same (if not stronger) conviction they had years earlier in trying to prove themselves to the masses. But it’s best you understand what was really going on during the three months these five best friends were holed up making Avenged Sevenfold.
They were having the time of their lives.
