DIABLOS CHULOS, banda de rock que surge del barrio porteño de San Cristóbal, dispara hoy su primer disco; que transita el sendero del rock y propone recuperar el sonido vintage clásico de los años 60’s, compuesto por canciones crudas y poderosas. .... Fieles a su propuesta de shows altamente enérgicos, una estética despojada y un sonido fresco, la banda forjó los cimientos para la producción de este material. .... Años atrás comenzaba a gestarse la semilla de lo que tiempo después sería Diablos Chulos: Federico Chulo (voz, guitarra) y su compañero de escuela, Anatole (batería), ya habían editado juntos un par de producciones independientes y realizaron algunas giras por Latinoamérica. .... Al poco tiempo y en el transcurso de los últimos siete años, Federico vivió en Londres, donde formó la banda My Juliette y, en 2004, realizó el single 'Wishes' producido por Gordon Raphael (productor de The Strokes). .... ........ Su EP debut 'Crying Ocean' - acompañado nuevamente por Anatole, ahora en la parte visual - se editó en Diciembre de 2006 a través del sello Pink Onion Records (dirigido por Jonathan Gems, guionista de varios films de Tim Burton) y distribuido por el sello Rough Trade. Además, presentó su banda en más de un centenar de shows por toda Inglaterra que lo llevó a abrir para la banda Babyshambles. .... ........ Durante esos años Federico y Anatole siguieron reuniéndose esporádicamente, hasta que en Diciembre del 2007, estando Federico de viaje por Buenos Aires, decidieron volver a tocar juntos. Con el ingreso de dos viejos amigos, Juan Braver en guitarra y Hernan Des en bajo, forman LOS CHULOS. Juan Braver (El Bambi) recien habia regresado de Los Ángeles donde estudiaba guitarra, mientras que Hernan Des militaba en la escena local porteña con su banda de culto “The Warriors”. .... En Enero de 2008 Los Chulos graban su primer EP, “Buenos Aires Town”, editado a través del sello inglés Pink Onion con publishing de EMI. .... ........ Con una propuesta más cruda y temas de carrocería rockera la banda toma influencias del punk, el reggae, el Glam de los 70's y el rock Stone, evocando el estilo de bandas como The Clash, The Stooges, The Doors, Bowie, y Los Rolling Stones para nombrar a algunos. .... Debutan en la galería Appetite a sala llena, y a los pocos días tocan como banda principal en el Konex. Al poco tiempo tocan en el ciclo Compass en Niceto, La Cigale, Podestá, War Club y la Casa donde vivió Luca Prodan, entre otros. .... En Agosto de ese año cambian su nombre por DIABLOS CHULOS. Meses despues tocarían en un show inolvidable (Galería Appetite), en el marco de la fiesta que se organizaría para la banda Placebo (post-show), que estaba de visita por la Argentina y pudo presenciar la presentacion en vivo de Diablos Chulos. .... Entre Julio y Diciembre de 2009 se realizan las sesiones de su primer larga duración SAN CRISTOBAL. Producido por Diablos Chulos y Esteban "Pichu" Serniotti (Cabezones / Catupecu Machu) en estudio PICHUATL y mezclado en PANDA, el disco sale a la venta a través del sello Prorockova Records, EMI PUBLISHING. Distribuye AF CLASSIC S.R.L .... ........ El periodista Santiago torres, de Radio Uno, destaco en su programa ‘Los Number One’: “hoy hay pocas bandas que te llegan como lo hace Diablos Chulos...”, en su reseña a “San Cristóbal”. .... Sin perder la influencia anglosajona, Diablos Chulos buscó un sonido más autóctono, ahora con letras en castellano, atrayendo nuevo público adepto a la arenga popular de grupos argentinos como Sumo o Viejas Locas. Los recitales se convirtieron en una marca registrada, quebrando la línea entre el público y la banda, derivando en situaciones de locura y caos tal cual sucedía con la escena punk de fines de los 70. .... “San Cristóbal” es un tránsito por las experiencias mas intensas de los Chulos, manifestando en sus letras realistas y claras los altibajos de lo cotidiano. En su disco debut, "San Cristóbal", Diablos chulos busca una síntesis entre el indie de The Libertines y la peculiaridad autóctona de Viejas locas. Guitarras al frente, canciones de tres minutos y espíritu de garage... Por GUILLERMO DOS SANTOS COELHO .... ¿Cuáles son las semejanzas y distancias entre un Pete Doherty, ex Libertines, y el autóctono Pity? Con canciones crudas de tres minutos, y una deuda explicitada con el postpunk del siglo XXI, Diablos chulos se muestra en San Cristóbal, su disco debut, como el eslabón perdido, musicalmente hablando, entre los dos maestros del reviente. .... La referencia a Doherty no es casual. El cantante y guitarrista Diablos chulos, Federico Zig, aprovechó una estadía de siete años en Londres (qué mejor lugar para empaparse de Indie al estilo Bloc party) para formar una banda llamada My Juliette y telonear a Babyshambles, el último grupo del enfant terrible inglés. .... De vuelta en Buenos Aires, Diablos chulos tomó forma con la premisa de recuperar un sonido clásico de los 60 y 70 que se puede inscribir en el revival de los últimos años del rock de garage o postpunk. .... En San Cristóbal, la banda se ubica en el centro de un triángulo imaginario cuyo primer vértice sería ese Londres indie. El segundo se ubicaría en la Nueva York de The Strokes o Interpol. Y el tercero sería suburbano porteño, al estilo Viejas locas. .... Con producción de la banda y de Pichu Serniotti (Cabezones), San Cristóbal muestra un universo sórdido con permanentes referencias a diablos (y sobre todo diablitas) y alusiones no demasiado veladas a las drogas (“Mi heroína baila para mí y me besa siempre que las cosas salen mal”, cantan en “Mi nena”). .... La propia banda asegura que, sin perder la influencia anglosajona, buscó un sonido más autóctono para un público “adepto a la arenga popular”. La síntesis funciona mejor y de manera más fluida (suena realmente bien) cuando se impone esa primera influencia, la del reviente cosmopolita, en el tramo inicial del disco. Y deja ver la búsqueda en el estilo de voz de Zig y en algunas letras (“Hoy haría cualquier cosa por vos / Me tiraría por la ventana / Vendería hasta las medias / Y andaría sobre espinas para amarte hoy” en “Haría por vos”). .... El segundo tramo de San Cristobal es más ecléctico y pierde algo de la contundencia inicial. Así, Diablos chulos pasa al rock más puro, estilo Pappo, de “Ella corta flores”, al vintage power pop en modo Fun people de “Plan garchar”. O al ska en “Gato negro”. Y a la cumbia (¿cínica?) de “Ladrona”, que suena algo fría y tiene algunas líneas de difícil digestión (“Burlaré a la gorra por tu amor”, por ejemplo). .... "'Los Chulos' story take us down to the United Kingdom where singer Federico Zig had lived since the year 2000. There he learned about song writing while hooking up with poets and bohemians in squats and pubs of the british capital. He would soon be picked up by Strokes' producer Gordon Raphael to record a single (wishes/2004) and later would release a first EP with his band My Juliette, titled 'Crying Ocean' (Pink Onion Records/2007). This sessions resulted in a delicate, moody and magical album that became a cult recording selling numerous copies around the world. It was also reviewed by several journalists. The music site Rockfeedback.com wrote "This record is as magical and natural as gypsy music and secret gigs in the woods, like Gogol Bordello on opium. They are all pretty pretty songs", and Room13.com said "My Juliette are full of promise, this sing-song style is truly delightful and when matched with tense guitarwork, it really lights a spark that's sure to signify a bright future for this band". My Juliette had achieved a cult following while succeeding in creating a new genre: a blend of dark glamadelic folk rock with the style of british bands and earthiness of latin music. .. "At the time of forming Los Chulos, and far away from the english bohemia, Zig and his school mate Anatole started working on some demos in the latin capital of Buenos Aires in the late 07'. They had previously worked on a band together which took them on a latin american tour achieving press attention. They performed live at Chilean ViaX TV Channel and did several radio performances. Anatole also devoted his days working as an experimental photographer (mostly shooting naked female models in weird settings).
