The 5 members of Gauche hail from radically different musical backgrounds, from jazz, gypsy, classical, hip hop, circus and beyond, and the diversity and talent in Gauche has created a unique new sound in Australian music. In March 2005 Gauche released their debut album, Paints Lane, and has recently launched a remix album, repainted, featuring the cream of Sydneys electronic music producers including Xav Fijac from Decoder Ring, Deepchild, Dsico, Comatone and Vassy collaborator Jacob Cook. These discs are currently released in Australia on Invada Records ... Their latest offering, Siesta Cinema is out through Vitamin from August 14 '06. Since the release of Paints Lane, Gauche has performed to sell-out crowds at The Basement, Candys Apartment and the Civic Hotel, and have strutted their stuff at other top venues and events including the Metro, the Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Hopetoun, the Mandarin Club, and the Peats Ridge Festival. Gauche has shared gigs with local and international acts like the Bird, Hermitude, Entropic, Ursula Rucker, Velure, and DJ and MC extraordinaire Jay Katz. Gauche has also been featured as celebrity DJs at the ragingly successful Purple Sneakers at the Abercrombie. Gauche is now preparing for the August 2006 release of a third album, Siesta Cinema, which features members of Fourplay, Sidecar and Darth Vegas on strings and horns and which will be showcased at The Studio at The Sydney Opera House on October 21st. Gauche's music has grabbed the attention of reviewers and audiences alike: 4 stars. Its a deliciously rich album that swings through genres (jazz, electro, hip-hop and even opera) so expertly that its impossible not to fall under their spell. Vocalist Jane Sheldon pours her measured lyrics so beautifully over the moody landscapes of blips that youll want to get lost in it for days.
