GAUNTLET is born in Madrid (Spain) in 1998, when Nacho Arriaga (d), Carlos Peña (b) and Antuán Manzano (g), join forces with Daniel Millán (g) and Jose Luis Viruete (v) to start a heavy metal project...
Half a year later, Miguel Rocha (g) enters the band replacing Manzano and GAUNTLET begins the recording of its first demo CD “Gauntlet”, released in 2000. At the end of this year, Viruete quits as well and with the helping throat of Nacho Ruiz, they release their second demo CD “Rising” in 2002...
Later on, Ando Martínez (d) replaces Nacho on drums and Sr. Lobo becomes the new singer. Few months later, this one and Carlos Peña leave the band, too...
In October of 2003, Santi García (b) joins GAUNTLET as the bass player, entering Ando’s home studio to record the new songs for their first CD, that will see the light more than two years later…..
Fed up with auditions, in 2004 the band becomes a quartet for the first time with Miguel as frontman/guitar player, until they find José Moscatel at the end of this year, but he’s fired not long after...
In February of 2005, they get in touch with Ivo Galenov, a Bulgarian vocalist whose style is impressive. So, with this line-up, they self-release “Path Of Nails” in 2006...
In the spring of ‘07, the band releases (by themselves, as well) the EP “The Comeback”, recorded at Newlife Studios and featuring three brand new songs plus his first professional video clip directed by Kiko Meler...
One year later, Ivo leaves GAUNTLET as well, due to personal circumstances. So, after a couple of months, the band decides the best option is not to keep on searching for anybody else and go ahead with this mark:
Miguel Rocha (Vocals, guitar), Daniel Millán (Guitar, backing vocals), Santi García (Bass, backing vocals) & Ando Martínez (Drums)...
With Miguel back on vocals, the new approach to the songs is more direct and raw, but that doesn’t mean it’s lacking in melody. So, being convinced of the new direction, they get down to work on “What Doesn’t Kill Us…” which is recorded in the summer of 2008 and mixed in October by José Garrido and Daniel Melián at New Life Studios in Madrid, who decide to remix it later on, in order to obtain an even better quality of sound. So, at the end of November, the engineers get in touch with Mika Jussila in Finnvox (Finland), who personally masters the CD...
“What Doesn’t Kill Us…” is released at last in Spain under the license of Molusco Discos in January 2009 and Gor Discos takes care of the distribution. On the other hand, they have come to an agreement with Background Noise to promote the new stuff...
GAUNTLET nace en Madrid en 1998, cuando Nacho Arriaga (bt), Carlos Peña (bj) y Antuán Manzano (g), unen sus fuerzas a Daniel Millán (g) y Jose Luis Viruete (v) para crear un grupo de heavy metal...
Medio año después, Miguel Rocha (g) entra en la banda sustituyendo a Manzano y GAUNTLET comienza la grabación de su primera maqueta “Gauntlet”, editada en 2000. A finales de año, Pepelu también lo deja, así que con la ayuda de Nacho Ruiz, que estaba en Arwen en esos momentos, consiguen grabar en 2002 su segunda demo, “Rising”...
Al poco tiempo, Ando Martínez (bt) reemplaza a Nacho, en Arwen desde entonces, en la batería y el Sr. Lobo se convierte en el nuevo cantante. Unos meses después, éste y Carlos (que ficha por Dreamaker) abandonan también...
En Octubre de 2003, Santi García (b) entra como nuevo bajista y empiezan a grabar en el estudio casero de Ando los temas para su primer CD, que verá la luz más de dos años despues…..
Hartos de audiciones, en 2004 la banda se reduce a cuarteto por primera vez, con Miguel como frontman/guitarrista, hasta que encuentran a José Moscatel a finales de este año, pero será expulsado al poco tiempo...
En Febrero de 2005, dan con Ivo Galenov, un vocalista búlgaro con un estilo impresionante. Así que, con esta formación terminan de grabar su primer larga duración, el autoproducido “Path Of Nails” en 2006...
En la primavera de 2007, la banda autoedita el EP “The Comeback”, grabado en los estudios Newlife de Madrid, que contiene tres nuevas canciones y su primer videoclip profesional, dirigido por Kiko Meler...
Un año después, Ivo también abandona el barco debido a circunstancias personales que le impiden continuar con la banda. Es por ello que un par de meses después, siendo conscientes de que no hay mejor opción, toman la decisión de seguir adelante como cuarteto de nuevo:
Miguel Rocha (Voz, guitarra), Daniel Millán (Guitarra, coros), Santi García (Bajo, coros) y Ando Martínez (Batería)...
Al retomar Miguel las labores vocales, el enfoque de las nuevas canciones es más crudo y directo, pero no por ello carente de melodía. Así que convencidos de la nueva dirección, graban su nuevo disco “What Doesn’t Kill Us…” que es grabado en el verano de 2008 y mezclado en Octubre por José Garrido y Daniel Melián en los New Life Studios de Madrid, quienes posteriormente deciden remezclarlo para obtener un sonido todavía mejor. Así que, a finales de Noviembre, los ingenieros se ponen en contacto con Mika Jussila de Finnvox (Finlandia), quien lo masteriza personalmente...
“What Doesn’t Kill Us…” finalmente sale a la venta en España en Enero del nuevo año bajo licencia de Molusco Discos y es distribuido por Gor Discos. Por otro lado, llegan a un acuerdo con Background Noise para la promoción del nuevo material...
