Gavin Hammond is a London-based musician, songwriter and producer.
A guitarist, bass player and multi-instrumentalist with a decidedly DIY ethic, he has a recording studio filled with vintage reissue analogue equipment, guitars, FX pedals, keyboards and percussion instruments.
As a singer/songwriter he has performed hundreds of gigs promoting two solo albums released on his own label (Onion Productions), and co-written and produced albums for various artists in the UK and Australia.
Also known as the producer behind London duo Sweet Tooth, his roots-influenced music encompasses folk, blues, country, jazz, soul, lounge, electronica and dub.
Originally from Cambridge, his acoustic songs bear the hallmarks of the town’s best-known folk exports: Robyn Hitchcock, Nick Drake and Boo Hewardine (with whom he has played in a band).
But Hammond also spent many years in Australia, where he recorded, toured and collaborated extensively after landing a publishing deal with Universal Music. There, his music appeared on film soundtracks, soaps, radio, TV and albums for Sony, Universal, Mushroom and Village Roadshow records. He also wrote a regular column on production techniques for Audio Technology magazine.
Now back in the UK, he has spent his time producing Sweet Tooth, promoting his second solo album, performing live, running a residency at The Dog House in South London, doing library music and session work, teaching guitar, writing for audio magazines, collaborating and recording in his studio, and writing new songs.
He has been described by as “the musician’s musician” by his friend and fellow songwriter, Paul Greene, and “an accomplished and atmospheric" producer by Van Morrison’s long-time engineer Mick Glossop. He has performed hundreds of shows across London and the south-east, and appeared at festivals including Secret Garden Party, the Woodford Folk Festival, the Falls Festival, and various Amnesty International events.
