Read the Groundbreaking Stern Review on the Economics of Global Warming
This report (Oct. 30, 2006), by Sir Nicholas Stern, former Chief Executive of the World Bank, is headline news around the globe. Economists agree: 1% GDP is all it would take to avoid the worst effects of Global Warming, which could cost 5% - 20% of GDP if we don't act now. World leaders are now actively moving to reduce CO2. Will Mr. Bush?

Executive Summary Full Report
I love planting trees in the city with Friends of the Urban Forest. You can too; go to www.fuf.net to volunteer. I love languages and travel! Languages I speak include Italian and French, and I'm working on Spanish. I've studied Russian, American Sign Language, Japanese and Hungarian.
Born in the beautiful slocan lake area in British Columbia, I grew up in Napa, California, have lived in Baja, Montreal, Siena and Trento. I've traveled to Hokkaido Japan (Go Otofuke HS!!) and to Belize, across Canada and the US, and throughout Europe. Next, I'm planning to go to Caracas, Venezuela to attend the World Social Forum this January. Also, I'd love to head back to Italia perche mi mancano tanto i miei cari amici.
Also, biking (that's how I commute, and I do it to fight against global warming), reading, poetry, writing, pontificating, singing, dancing (salsa, swing, ballroom, club, you name it!!), spending time on the beach, SWIMMING!!, working out at the gym, cooking (especially with friends!), baking (esp. bread and blueberry muffins), having nice (great, fun, even large) dinners together with friends and / or family, hiking, extreme biking, skiing (black slopes are great, but who wants moguls!?), physics, math, sociology, wordsmithery, BBQ's, campfires, partying with friends, making homebrew beer, playing the guitar and piano, spending time with my awesome roommies!!! (Justine, te amo!), snorkling, scuba diving ... well, just being me and living life: "who could ask for anything more?"
One more thing about me: I am quite interested in sustainable lifestyles. I think of the earth as a great big home: we should all not only pick up after ourselves and do the dishes; we should also strive to make it as beautiful and harmonious as possible.
Also... I try always to be both compassionate and very open-minded.

I prefer being outside, being with friends, meditating, a little bit of doing whatnot, etc... =) So how on Earth do I keep up with what's going on in the world? I get my news from internet independent news.In general, doing research on things in which I have an interest (like globalization, environmental conservation, social movements and the like) gives me a fairly steady and reliable stream of information. Travel certainly helps, as well as talking to people.
Actually, this last one is a REALLY great source of constant, local information; plus, you meet new people, make friends sometimes, and get a great, warm feeling of community. People to talk to about their opinions on the environment, politics, their lives, their community or anything include friends, family, co-workers, random people you chance to meet, etc. It's best to get a good cross-section of your local community as well. For example, talk to homeless people, people in the grocery shop, people on the bus or train, people in your local and regional governments, police officers, teachers, etc.
Otherwise, these sources seem to be good sources of info on a broader than public level:
KPFA Free Speech Radio 94.1 FM
NPR Public Radio 88.5 FM
Indymedia US
Grist Magazine - "Environmental News and Humor"
For news on a particular country, it's fun to go to news sites in that country. I usually start by going to the google site for that country (for example, www.google.it for Italy), and then searching for news sites. You can translate the sites into English using web translation sites such as Altavista Babelfish. It's fun! =)
Also, if I have time, I'll read magazines of differing political views, such as Harper's Magazine and The Economist Magazine, though I agree more with the views of the former than the latter.

I bike to reduce air poluion that gives little kids asthma and to help combat Global Warming. Why do you bike? Postings and messages about why you bike are always great to read. Also, if you have any questions about getting rid of or spending less time in the old smog machine, I'm more than happy to offer insights, how to's, and congratulations on life beyond cars. For some transit and bike info in the bay area, www.511.org and www.sfbike.org are good sites.

Long time!!!!!
Hi! Gavin!
Last week we "officially" launched Greenerforum.com. We are inviting our Myspace friends to be the first to join us in this new community to discuss social and environmental issues, in an attempt to find ways to "do more good."
Whether you are interested in eating healthier, self improvement, the environment, social injustice, authenticity, or just want to see what green living is all about, we hope you'll take a moment to get involved.
We know there are not enough hours in the day to get involved in all the social networks available nowadays, but we hope you'll find that Greenerforum.com has something more to offer, making it worth your time and energy to get involved.
Here are just a few of the features that set us apart:
- connections that multiply your ability to do good
- monthly give aways for green products and services
- unique opportunities for funding your green ideas
- shared ad revenue
Are you being good to Whitney? I hope so. I'd hate to have to fly over there and kick some American Korean ass. Merry Christmas, and stay happy.
Korea..smorea. Nothing rhymes with Korea.
Wishing you an
Absolutely beautiful
Celebration -
~Deborah~
