   About Gavin Sutherland

Welcome to The Hotel Caledonia, 2009, the space where I hang out, eat Fair Trade bananas and do cool stuff with my space friends.

Delighted to report that THE DEAL is going down rather well in all corners of the globe. BIG thanks to the kind people who have contacted me to let me know how much they are enjoying the music. May I congratulate you on your excellent taste! A chap in New Zealand told me he played it at his birthday bar-b-q a couple of days ago and it made the perfect compliment to an evening of good food and fine wine. So, if you are planning a bar-b-q or entertaining guests, or maybe a fun night in on your own, might I suggest you arrange the procurement of a copy without delay! I hear it works equally well with curries, doner kebabs and beer.

Get your copy at www.gavinsutherland.net
(band website link to the left).

GREEN MATTERS: In an effort to minimize impact on our precious earthly resources THE DEAL is available on special edition CDs in cardboard sleeves, each one numbered and signed.

Or DOWNLOAD THE DEAL, NOW!! . . . click HERE and follow the link to www.inzu.net/themarket.

You'll find my last album, Diamonds and Gold at amazon and CD Baby. It's also downloadable from iTunes. There's another Gavin Sutherland out there, a very clever man who conducts orchestras and stuff like that. For obvious reasons our cyberpaths cross from time to time so just mind how you go.

BREAKING NEWS: Started work today on the Cathal McConnell - Duncan Wood music project. Brilliant Irish and Scottish traditional players. Cathal's flute and Duncan's fiddle were made for each other. Truly wonderful stuff! I'm producing their new album and playing a few wee guitar parts here and there. Jim Hunter is recording it all and, I'm delighted to say, has readily accepted the position of Project Refreshments Manager. His biscuit of choice this week, the Morrison's Dark Chocolate Digestive (Budget Range) has been hailed a veritable triumph by all concerned.

BANDOGRAPHY:
My musical madness kicked off in 1967 when I left school to join big brother's band, A New Generation. Then came The Sutherland Brothers Band, Sutherland Brothers and Quiver (a decade of gigs, recording studios, hotels, gigs and more recording studios, hotels, gigs, recording studios, hotels and gigs) and then numerous wee bands including The Rockets, The Red Sierras and The Wireless Brothers. Oh, yeah, and I've done a couple of solo albums, one for Moonshine Records (Holland) and one for Corazong Records (Netherlands). The Dutch have impeccable taste. I have a passion / addiction for writing and recording songs and music and look after a small (but beautiful) studio in North East Scotland.

PERFORMER'S TIP OF MONTH:
"It is always obvious within a few minutes what they, the audience, will respond to and what they will not, and in practice you are almost compelled to speak for the benefit of what you estimate as the stupidest person present, and also to ingratiate yourself by means of the ballyhoo known as "personality". If you don't do so, the result is always an atmosphere of frigid embarrassment. There will always be some among the audience who are bored or all but frankly hostile." George Orwell, 1903-1950.

THIS WEEK'S TOP LISTEN:
Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Enjoyed the pleasure of Ian's rapier sharp wit and repartee on more than one occasion backstage at the old Marquee. "For thine is the Kingston, the Purley and Crawley. . ." There ain't half been some clever bastards!

THIS WEEK'S TOP READ:
"Jonathan Livingston Seagull" A Story by Richard Bach. I bought this at an airport somewhere in the States in 1973. A pocket masterpiece.

Probably the last SBQ one for a while, you MIGHT just recognise one of two harbours here, but there is ONE photo in particular, a relation of yours helped me with.  You need to keep watching to the very end.

Happy Days, Steve

Hi Gavin,

I just wanted to let you know how much I'm enjoying the CD of 'Down To Earth'.  It's a long time since I last heard the album, but it is even better than I remember it to be.  The Eagles influence seems quite strong - is this a band that you're a fan of?

Cheers, David

Gavin,

All the best to you and your family for the weekend.

Finally managed a personal tribute (not professional at all) of one of the old songs.

Be most chuffed if you commented on the video, even if it's must try harder ! lol
