When Truk Thompson vacated the GAW Heavyweight Title, Co-Owner JC Michaels dubbed Matt Cage his new "chosen one" and helped lead him to victory in a Four Way TLC Match also featuring Jaxson Pride, Tru Talent and Jonathan Napier. With a little assistance from Clique of Champions members Beckett and Conner Riley, Cage obtained the title from the apparatus in which the belt was hanging from. Thus far in his reign, Cage has defeated all former GAW Champions in recent history to cement himself as a worthy champion. He has also defeated IWA-MS Champions, Dingo and Ian Rotten.

Following an embarrassing loss to Angelo Santelli back in June, Matt Cage made up for it in their third encounter (the second in one day) when he defeated Santelli to win the HWC Title. During the bout and after it, Cage caused quite the scary injury for Angelo. A disgusting attack on Angelo's shoulder and arm left it broken in five places.

On June 13, 2009, Kenny O'Brien became the first person to pin Matt Cage cleanly in the middle of the ring in over a year when he became the Central States Champion following a vicious Stunner. O'Brien was quoted as saying, "I have some huge shoes to fill as Matt Cage, Cecil Cerveza and other past Central States Champions set the bar pretty high. But this is the path I have to take to improve myself and prove to all the doubters and naysayers that I am a quality performer."

Ian Rotten and Joey Grunge were the reigning champions until Grunge fell ill and opted to take some time off rather than cause himself further harm or cause harm to his partner and opponents. Since May, the titles have been vacant. However, GAW management is doing their best to decide new champions as we speak!

Camron Starr defeated relative unknown, Cerise Keller in the finals of a grueling Women's Tournament (most of which was decided in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) in Lincoln, IL in June. Starr is the first Women's Champion in GAW history. Post title win, Starr was interviewed and stated that, "I will do those ladies who came before me proud. Strong women such as the Fabulous Moolah, Judy Grable and others. Wendi Richter, Madusa and Sherri Martel. All of the women who made it possible for a girl like me to do what the boys do."
