More detailed biographical information is available at: http://adegbalola.com/bio.html
Gaye Adegbalola has been singing and playing guitar and harmonica with Saffire - The Uppity Blues Women since the popular acoustic blues group's inception in 1984. Together they have recorded eight CD's for Alligator Records, and have toured widely throughout the U.S. and abroad, receiving international acclaim. In 1990 Ms. Adegbalola was the recipient of the prestigious Blues Music Award (formerly known as the W.C. Handy Award) for her song Middle Aged Blues Boogie.
Now through her latest solo album, "Gaye Without Shame" Gaye aims to take queer issues to the blues community and the blues to the GLBT community. In 2006 she recorded a CD with her son, "Blue Mama Black Son", combining Gaye's traditional original blues songs with Juno's industrial-Goth programming. "Neo-Classic Blues" recorded in 2004 with pianist Roddy Barnes, embraces and redefines the classic style of the great blues divas of the 1920s and 30s. Gaye's critically acclaimed debut solo CD, "Bitter Sweet Blues", was produced by Rory Block and released on Alligator Records in 1999.
An educator with Fredericksburg, Virginia, public schools for 18 years, Adegbalola was honored as Virginia State Teacher of the Year in 1982. She is a dynamic, engaging and motivational public speaker, and conducts a variety of workshops and seminars.

About this page: I have been very active in Domestic Violence causes all of my adult life. I noticed a need in the world pertaining to Same Sex Domestic Violence. It happens more than people know. Unfortunately there is a number of gay people who barely consider themselves worthy or valued as a gay person much less a Domestic Violence Victim. There is also very limited resources, statistics, or information, for Same Sex Domestic Violence. Hopefully through empowerment and education we can change some of this. :D
