SYNOPSIS
GDMF is an improv based dramatic short film about an exotic dancer who makes an unsettling personal discovery after performing at a private party.
DIRECTOR STATEMENT
When I wrote the first draft of GDMF, I had no intentions of making an improvisational film. I realized over the course of subsequent drafts, however, that I’d merely created an outline with a few splashes of dialogue. And so when I gave it to the actors, I encouraged them to read it once and then throw it away. They’d fill in all the holes I’d left on the page.
The more I make films and watch films, the more I am impressed by and infatuated with actors and their processes. On GDMF, I wanted to put those processes to the test. I didn’t want the actors to be a character; I just wanted them to be themselves in the circumstance I’d created for them. I am very interested in blurring the lines of reality and fiction, style and substance, and behavior and performance.
With GDMF, I saw an opportunity to indulge these interests and do something new for myself. To forget about witty dialogue and perfectly mapped-out narrative. I wanted to make paradisiacal mistakes and happy accidents. A vérité documentary about a fictional set of characters in a fake circumstance. I wanted to never say action and never yell cut.
And in case your wondering, GDMF is an acronym for Goddamn Motherfucker.
