In the early 2002, chose Marcus (aka Hietsu) and Mikki urinals next to each other in a gas station toilet somewhere between Vaasa and Tampere in Finland. Somehow, during their piss, these two wags started to talk about music, and soon they realized that they had pretty much in common. So they finished their piss, washed their hands and formed a band.
At the time, Marcus still lived in Turku. However, having such a good and strong feeling about this new project, he decided to move to Vaasa. The next time Mikki and Marcus met was when Marcus came to Vaasa, for good. Mikki had already booked a gig for the band which was still missing name, songs and some members. Fortunately, there was still a week to go!
The guys packed Mikki's Toyota with their guitars, some pizza and beer and drove to the beautiful Kvarken Archipelago to spend a night at Mikki's cabin. During that hilarious winter night they made 5 songs for the forthcoming gig, which took place in Club 25.
At this point came the other half of the band in the picture. Mikki had been jamming together with Sami (Type S. Motor) and Tommy (B.Falcon) earlier in 2001. Though they had only couple of days left before the gig, decided Mikki and Marcus ask Sami and Tommy to join the band. Later on, also Juha (the Highlander) joined the live line-up as a gig guitarist in order to strenghten the live sound and make the band look even a bit cute.
The band was given a name "geet". The word appeared to Marcus' mind and described perfectly the special feeling between these four rockers. The word does not have any other meaning, as we know.
After the first gig, which was a success, things started to happen quite quickly. The guys got a rehearsal space at the legendary Siwa (R.I.P.), started spending a lot of time together and made new songs. During the next two years several gigs were played in Vaasa and the nearby towns and the band got lots of glowing feedback.
However, in 2004, the guys realized that playing together started to feel forced. Every member having another active groups, liabilities to military service, a member moving away from Vaasa and personal anxiety of some members had a ruining affect to the band. So the boys decided to respect the special atmosphere they once had by not to playing together anymore. The decision was hard, but vital to the spirit of geet.
Nowadays Marcus, Mikki, Tommy and the new drummer Niko get together once in a while to have fun and enjoy the great tunes and the undying spirit of geet.
The three songs on this site were never released. We've been frequently asked to make them available, so here you go! Enjoy.
